I particularly like the violin sound on 'Smile' by Skylite. Its got that 'euro' sound where it sounds like one violin multi-tracked rather than an orchestra.
Leanmean I hope you don't mind if I continue your thread!
Which is the disco song with the best use of violins?
I think violins have been used a lot in disco songs. To me one masterpiece is "Shine on silver moon" by McCoo & Davis. What yours?![]()
People all over the world, It\'s time for love & understanding, Come together!!

...ya gotta beat the street......
I'm playing one of my faves right now --- Summertime by MFSB. Gorgeous. Violins just soar throughout this song. I'm sure the other 100 or so I love will come to mind later. :)
Love Has No Time or Place

My suggestions are:
1)"ten percent" by Double Exposure
2)"poinciana" by Paradise Expess

Brainstorm's "Lovin' Is Really My Game." What else?!!
I Believe In The Boogie, But Lovin\' Is Really My Game.
Damn it Danceman, you beat me to it. I just absolutely love the violins and the arrangement of them in this awesome song. There may be some nearly as good but "Loving Is Really My Game" hits it perfectly with the violins.Originally Written by DanceMan

I think it's impossible to name just ONE disco song that used violins well...!
For me, the heavy use of violins and other beautiful string instruments are an integral part of the best disco songs (along with brass instruments too, of course). This kind of orchestration just can't be beat! :D
\"...a once in a lifetime feeling that returns every week...\"
Salsoul Orchestra - You're Just The Right Size.
\"Ain\'t no Half Steppin\"
Violins in Disco records..................Hmmm my mind is a complete blank. I don't think there's one record I like with violins in. That's frightening isn't it?
Hey folks,
I can't remember the best use of violins on a DISCO record, but I can remember some of the worst ...
Here's one:
DON'T LET GO, by ISAAC HAYES - for Christ's sake, the violins on this song are simply HORRIBLE! Shame on you, IKE!
zeca azevedo, just a sorry specimen of manhood
When I think of "swirling strings" two songs come to mind:
1) "Love's Theme" by Love Unlimited Orchestra; Barry White and the late string arranger Gene Page worked "magic" with violins on their productions.
2) "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough"- (Michael Jackson) The string arrangement on this classic makes me feel like I'm floating in a swirling cyclone of strings--I LOVE IT!!! Now maybe this has something to do with that early video where Michael is sort of floating on the screen--but I get that levitating feeling from the arrangement on this record. I'm at work--can't play it-- so I'm relying on my memory.![]()
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Marky: You've awakened my memory. Respect to MJ.
Zeca........to me, the best part of that Isaac Record IS the violin break.....as a matter of fact, I have it on multiple CDs and whenever that part of the song comes on, I scan back over it several times......that was one of MY HIGHS in the 70s!Originally Written by zeca azevedo

It's funny. I picked up a kinda sucky compilation cd on the cheap because I wanted "Don't Let Go." Not so much because I really dig this song but for some reason it's stuck in my head and I'm trying to figure out what it is. Could be those violins.Originally Written by DanceMan

I love the string section in How Much How Much I Love You by Love and Kisses. The strings on Evita are pretty good to me too.

"Girl, Don't Make Me Wait"
Hi Danceman,
well, as someone said before on this FORUM "Different strokes for different folks". There's lots of records that I like that some of my friends simply cannot stand, and vice versa. I don't like the string arrangement on Ike's disco classic. About strings on disco records my favorite are the strings from PHILLY SOUL, which sounds more discreet and elegant than 90% of the strings that we hear in some standart disco records from 1975-1979. CHIC strings are good too (with one of two exceptions).
zeca azevedo, just looking for his stradivarius
Oh it's gotta be CHIC - "I want your love"...that hits the top spot
1. The opening swirl of strings in STICK TOGETHER by Minnie Riperton
2 - Any Boris Midney record
3- Summertime by MFSB - I believe I actually levitated during this on many occasions, twirling in the air next to the mirror balls like a dervish
4- Pretty Maid by The Pretty Maid Company
or nearly anything by The Pat Halling String ensemble.
although they only underline this great song and are not as characteristic as in other disco songs I love the violins on Fat Larry's Band's "Act Like You Know"...
'My Sweet Summer Suite" of course!
You can slide my finger on it
Belle Epoque - Miss Broadway
Silver Convention - Fly Robin fly / Get up & boogie
Boney M - Rasputin
etc etc etc . . .
If you buy this record your life, will be better.
