Uh huh... thought I meant you, didn't you 'Little Brother'? Actually, I just finished reading an article on Scherrie Payne and found out, as if we need another, that there is one more Anthology out there by The Supremes. This one, "The 70's Anthology", has an 'extended' version of your fave jam. Do you have it yet? They didn't list the time so can't tell how much has been added.

Give me the scoop if you have any. I'm going to pick this set up because... :lol: :lol: :lol: NO DIANA ROSS in these songs! Just the ladies that were there after the wicked witch bailed. :P

Thought I'd jump in. From the Motown board a lot of folks have been waiting for this Anthology. He's My Man is a previously unreleased extended version clocked at 4:52. I preordered my copy and received last Wednesday. I enjoy it. :)

Thanks, Discomanic. I love all these songs with Jean Terrell, Scherrie, Susaye, Mary Wilson (of course!) and Cindy Birdsong. I really didn't miss Ms. Ross when she left, even though I had grown up with The Supremes. What I missed, and I'll say it again, is all that lavish production that surrounded her.

That said, this anthology has a lot of my favorites:

I normally don't buy collections like these unless I'm missing a lot of them in my collection. I prefer album cuts to singles. But, this baby has got my attention... and my lps are looking and sounding kind of sad. :cry: :)

A long time ago, I asked Nicky why "He's My Man" was never extended. NOW, Motown releases a 4:52 version, adding approx. 1:50 to the length of the 3:02 version previously released.

Motown--what took ya so long???? Why didn't ya release it in 1975 when this terrific record could only chart #69 R&B and didn't chart at all on the Pop chart. Maybe an extended version could have helped this single get some club play and sales might have benefited. :roll:

Probably my favorite Supremes' album, post-Diana, was their final studio offering and it still holds up....the quick-paced, long-running, "Love, I Never Knew You Could Feel So Good," was really disco-and-then-some for this pop/soul trio and as far as I was concerned they could have gone on forever and I would be quite content having them around well into their sixties - battling right alongside Ms. Ross for chart dominance....

Speaking of...now when is Motown going to awaken and get Ashford and Simpson to release some of those yet-to-be-heard dust covered gems from The Boss sessions?

Hi fellas,

you're right, THE SUPREMES post-Diana recorded so many great songs, just like the ones you mentioned. Unfortunately, they received second rate treatment by MOTOWN (just like some other great artists), so their hit potential was never developed as much as it could.

To this day, I never saw a CD edition of an album by THE SUPREMES post-Diana - all the albums the girls released in the 70's are still lost in the vaults of MOTOWN. A real shame.

I gotta mention another tune that I love by the post-Ross Supremes--the title track from "High Energy". It's got a long "Shaft"-inspired orchestral opening that works me every time I hear it. Anyone else know this one?

I'm looking at the track list of this new 70's Supremes Anthology and see that "High Energy is included as well as another little-known gem "It's All Been Said Before" written by Lambert /Potter (the guys behind Dusty Springfield's terrific "Cameo" LP). There are some other titles that I love that didn't make the cut--I'll have to check my stash at home later.

Looks like I've gotta buy ANOTHER Supremes Anthology. :roll:

Thanks for letting us know about this anthology, Nicky! Purchased a copy last night. I cannot believe the difficulties I had finding a copy! However, I had to have it when I saw that cuts from the "Mary, Sherrie and Susaye" album (You're My Driving Wheel) were included.

Just wanted to let you know that this extended version had MONSTER CLUB HIT all over it. What the **** was Motown thinking? Why didn't they support this?

Anyway, I'm not happy with a lot of the remastering (I mentioned this in another thread) and the way they 'flattened' the instruments on this song is bothersom. Where they could have reigned in the reverb a bit was on the lead vocals but instead it's FULL TILT BOOGIE. In spite of all this, most of which I'm sure I wouldn't have cared about back-in-the-day, this song have been worked. Sure, it could have used a more 'dj-friendly' intro but I'm sure we could have managed. There's an 8-bar breakdown in the extension where, if PUMPED, would have had the girls screeeeaming!! And Scherrie's voice is up in the stratosphere.

Pick this up Little Bro, you'll like it.

I seem to recall reading that Berry Gordy couldn't give a flying french seal about The Supremes once Miss Ross had departed.

But Marky would be the expert on that subject...
