Well, it's not exactly HOT gossip, but let me toss a few tidbits out there.

First Rex Reed explained the Liza/David Gest merger as just that: she (Liza) needed money; She(David) needed entree into the crowd Liza hangs with (Old, Old Hollywood, apparently).

Ruth Warrick (Phoebe from All My Chilluns) says David Gest was her b.f. for a number of years and never once tried to nail her. Liza countered that that doesn't make David gay. Ruth IS 86 years old, after all. How amusing. I hope Liza & Ruth have a catfight in the pool a la Krystal & Alexis. My money's on Ruth.

Liza also has received some bad press for trying to evict her stepmama Lee Minnelli from the Bev Hills house she's occupied for a number of years. Apparently, Liza or David or some of their minions had the electricity turned off in an effort to force Lee to vacate the premises. David says Liza has offered to move Lee into a nice condo. I would imagine Liza's cash flow problems must be pretty dire cause Lee Minnelli is 94 years old. I would think the compasionate thing to do would be to wait a few days, months, a year? for nature to take care of this pesky little thorn in her side. I mean 94!!!! Is that worth the bad press of looking like Simon Legree?

Oh, and although the Broadway cast of "The Graduate" has been thoroughly roasted by the critics, apparently the show is still selling tickets at quite a clip. Alicia Silverstone & Jason Biggs were likened to high school thespians and the STAR, Grand Diva Kathleen Turner has been likened to a Fullback in her nude scene. Pundits said she should have had a "number" painted on her back. And, to add insult to injury, some NY shockjock asked his listeners to yell out, "Hey, Kathleen, for gawd's sake, put your clothes back on" at performances. Howard Stern reported that at least one guy has done so and was dragged from his seat by ushers and thrown out. Wish I coulda been at that performance.

Oh, and everyone's buzzing about the firing of British actor Henry Goodman after one month of replacing Nathan Lane in "The Producers" on Broadway. Actors get fired lots of time before the Broadway opening--but rarely after replacing the original star. I mean they did have auditions, didn't they? I've heard they didn't think he was funny. And I heard somone (Mel Brooks?) is giving copius notes to Matthew Broderick's replacement Steven Weber. One backstage visitor said Weber had 14 pages of notes after a recent performance. Stuff to the likes of "if you say the line this way you can get 12 seconds of laughs rather than the 6 you're now getting". That sounds like a actor's dream job, right?

Oh and lastly I know somone who interviewed to be Val Kilmer's assistant yesterday. Oddly enough, this same person served Val at Dan Tana's restaurant last weekend and felt Val was giving him the old cruise, if ya catch my drift. I told my friend to tell Val that the waiter was his brother Ursula (think "Friends"). Val didn't seem to remember and seemed really bored by the whole process making several people wait about 3 hours "by the pool at the Bel Air Hotel". Later, it got so cold out there, they had to move the proceedings inside.

Now, my friend is constantly saying, "If Val calls--I'm not here" a la Junior Vasquez to Madonna.

This morning, Robert Uhrich died of cancer. I didn't know that he was suffering and going through chemotherapy for the past couple of years until today. Everyone remembers him most as the star of SPENCER FOR HIRE co-starring Avery Brooks. But my favorite show of his was VEGAS. I also remember him playing a dirty vigilante cop along with David Soul in Clint Eastwood's "Magnum Force"(1975?).

Urich was one of my favorite "small screen" actors. I never missed an episode of "Spenser..." He and Avery could scorch the film when they were in full-tilt character. If you want to see Urich in something lighter, check out "Turk 182!" He's not the lead but he's the good guy with a lot of bad luck hangin' around.

So, Nicky, have you heard that Robert Urich had just completed an TV movie (for CBS, I think) in which he played a child molester (incestous, even, if I remember correctly--I mean, I read this as far back as yesterday!), but the producer said the movie will now probably never air because that's not the way people want to remember Urich.

He was one TV's most satisfying performers--talented, likeable, good-looking, dependable. More TV stars should follow his example.

I forgot to mention that I've seen Robert Uhrich in person about 5 years ago in Saks Fifth Avenue. I'm not the type to scream and act ridiculous when I see a celeb so I just waved to him and he waved back.

Yesterday Robert Blake (Baretta) was arrested for the murder of his wife. I knew that he was guilty! When the story broke last year, I was convinced that he did it because his stories didn't add up. Whats really FUCKED UP is that he put on this facade in front of the cameras at his wife's funeral claiming that his children and him are devasted. Shame on him! When I saw Robert .B on the front page paper in handcuffs, I was thinking about the song of his hit T.V series Baretta:

    Don't do the crime

If you can't do the time

    YEAHHHH

    Don't do it!

No, I hadn't heard about the latest movie. Probably would be hard to watch but I'd do it just to see him acting again. I loved this guy on screen.

I was caught off guard by his death because I knew he had been ill but thought he was on the way to recovery. Your second paragraph sums it up nicely --- he'll be missed.
