    GARDEN PARTY - MEZZOFORTE

This is for anyone who knows this track (JazzP).
Last night on Greg Edwards Jazz FM show he played a track by
Hugh Masekela which I had all but forgotten and the title of which escapes me now.....grrrrrr.........African Breeze
Anyhow, what struck me is that this track and Mezzoforte's 'Garden Party' are almost interchangeable. I'm sure I've probably mixed the two in and out of each other, sometime in the dim and distant past, but don't have African Breeze around anymore. So which one came first? Anyone remember? I think it was the Mezzoforte track, but..........They were both around at more or less the same time.

I actually have the LP that Garden Party is taken from. Sorry, I know youre not an LP person are u Q? Its a great LP. Other good tracks are Action Man, Funk Suite #1 & Easy Jack. Whatever happened to this Icelandic group? Much better than Bjork IMO!

I didn't realize that Garden Party made the UK pop charts until I looked at their website. www.mezzoforte.com. This is freaking me out as I always had the tune as a bit of an underground disco hit. Memory does play tricks..........BAD tricks.

Steely: Don't fall offa ya stool! I actually have one of their albums too. It's from 1980 on Steinar records and everything is in Icelandic. The only reason I have it is that a fellow DJ gave it to me to impress me. He had plans of recording a band (later called Fire and Ice) and one of its members was on this album. I guess I ought to give it back to him one day soon.
I always loved 'Garden Party' and used to drag it out whenever I could.

I haven't got Garden Party but I remember it well .... At the local club I used to frequent at that time I won their follow up LP as a prize. I have forgotten what it is called but it was so-so, I recall. Maybe I should dig it out and give it a spin sometimes...

African Breeze came out later as I remember I bought that when I moved in to London. I think that track is not bad, but what really stands out for me on the 12-inch EP was Hugh Masakela's epic version of Coal Train, which starts off really sultry and moody, climaxing with a wonderful African choir. Do you remember that track?

Jazz: Coal Train - Can't say I do remember it. Don't forget, if I didn't feel it would work on the floor I wouldn't have given it a second look. Mercenary eh? The one track I really liked by Hugh Masekela was of course 'Don't Go Lose it Baby'.
Yeah, I know, so did everyone. Still can't beat it though.

Don't Go Lose it Baby - that was a big track, wasn't it!

Coal Train was definitely for sitting down and listening to ......
