    For those having trouble logging in....

    == UPDATE April 25, 2010 == PLEASE READ if you are having difficulties logging into the forum...
    Sorry about the hassles. Other sites using this forum are experiencing similar problems with users not being able to login for no apparent reason and the vendor is looking for a fix. Using Firefox or Safari instead of IE may help.

    Please do the following:
    1. Delete any cookies in your browser for discomusic.com
    2. One thing to check is that you are visiting the forum via the url with the www. prefix as using a url without the www may be the cause of the problem so go to http://www.discomusic.com/forums/
    3. Once at the above page make sure to force a refresh of the page.
    4. login in as usual and make sure to check the box that says, keep me logged in.

    Those four steps in that order should get you in. If it doesn't then I ask that you be patient until the vendor fixes the problem. Please do NOT re-register or change your password. Just try the above repeatedly till you can log in. Sorry for these problems, but they are beyond my control.

    =================

    A few members are experiencing difficulties logging into the forums. The cause of the problem is unknown. I've been doing all I can possibly do and have spent countless hours tackling the problem to no avail. Please do NOT reset your password as this makes the problem worse.

    The forum uses a lot of cutting edge technology which can trigger false alerts / trip up some software you may be running. Some members are running addon software that may be causing conflicts with the forum. Please disable or put "discomusic.com" in the whitelist prefs of the following:

    == Ad blockers
    == Anti-virus
    == Any software that claims to wipe out, delete or manage cookies and browser history.
    == Browser add-ons such as toolbars, extensions and themes...

    The cookies that this site/forum saves on your computer are essential and should not be deleted under normal circumstances! When an issue prevents you from logging in--then as a last resort, try deleting any DiscoMusic.com cookies and then force a reload of the forum login page. Make sure to check the box "remember me / keep me logged in" so there is no need to log in each time you visit.

    Also, try logging in with a different browser as one member, "needlefingers" and now others have confirmed that they couldn't login with Microsoft IE8, but had no issues using Firefox. Also consider using Safari as an alternate.

    Some users, especially those poor souls still on AOL, occasionally experience problems accessing the forums such as "504 errors," not being able to log-in... One fix that may help is to do the following:

    In Internet Explorer:
    1. Click on the Tools menu
    2. Click Internet Options
    3. Click the Connections tab
    4. Click LAN Settings (button near the bottom)
    5. Clear any checkboxes that may be there, so that NOTHING is checked.
    6. Click OK a couple of times to get out of Internet Options.
    7. Now, close out of IE entirely (close ALL windows!), and then go back into IE and try to access the site.

    If the above does not work for AOL users then please see the following URL or ask their tech support for assistance.

    In case the above URL is down it essentially said to do:

    Clear the Cache, Cookies, History, Then Rebuild the AOL® Adapter

    Whenever you visit Web sites, they will store what is known as temporary Internet files and cookies on your computer to identify that Web site. Sometimes these temporary Internet files and cookies can cause the issue you are experiencing. Similarly your History list can also be a concern. The more days you have specified for pages to be saved on your history list, the more disk space is used on your computer. You can free up disk space by clearing this list.

    To manually clear cache, cookies and history for Internet Explorer® 7.0:
    1. Close any Internet browser windows that may be open on your computer.
    2. Click the Start button, select All Programs, then click Internet Explorer.
    3. In the upper right, click the Tools menu, then click Internet Options.
    4. On the General tab, in the Browsing history section, click the Delete... button.
    5. In the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete files... button to clear the cache.
    6. Click the Yes button to confirm.
    7. In the Cookies section, click the Delete cookies... button, to clear cookies.
    8. Click the Yes button to confirm.
    9. In the History section, click the Delete history... button to clear history.
    10. Click the Yes button to confirm.
    11. In the lower right, click the Close button to close the Delete Browsing History window.
    12. Click the OK button to close the Internet Options window.

    To manually clear cache, cookies and history for Internet Explorer 6.0:
    1. Close any Internet browser windows that may be open on your computer.
    2. Click the Start button, select All Programs or Programs, then click Internet Explorer.
    3. Click the Tools menu, then click Internet Options....
    4. On the General tab, in the Temporary Internet files section, click the Delete Files... button to clear cache.
    5. Click the Delete all offline content box to place a check mark in it, then click the OK button for confirmation.
    6. In the Temporary Internet files section, click the Delete Cookies... button to clear cookies.
    7. Click the OK button to confirm.
    8. In the History section, click the Clear History button to clear history.
    9. Click the Yes button for confirmation.
    10. Click the OK button to close the Internet Options window.
    To manually rebuild the AOL® Adapter:
    1. Close the AOL software.
    2. Click the Start button, select All Programs or Programs, select America Online, then click AOL System Information.
    3. If prompted by a warning message, click the OK button.
    4. Click the Utilities tab.
    5. Click the Uninstall AOL Adapter button, or next to AOL Adapter, click the Rebuild button, or next to Rebuild AOL Adapter, click the Start button.
    6. Click the OK button.
    7. Click the X button or close the window.
    8. Restart the computer and launch the AOL software again. The AOL Adapter will rebuild automatically.

    Thanks for being patient while I try to get this matter fixed.

    More helpful tips...

    Hi everyone,

    All of us at one time or another have had problems logging in to the forum or just experiencing wierd behaviour such as slow loading, blank pages...

    While it does not cure all ailments, one can try deleting all cookies associated with this site and starting with fresh ones. It's usually done by going into your browsers "Preference" panel and opting to "delete" cookies, quiting your browser and then restarting.

    Please note that doing the above means that you'll have to log back in and reset some of your peferences in your "Profile."

    ===== Also ======

    Please note that there are TWO areas for which one can register; the MAIN site and the forum. Each requires a separate registration and log-in. In the future I hope to merge the two, but there are technical issues to deal with.

    Please make sure to register for BOTH and you will be able to access and participate in ALL areas of the site. You are strongly advised to use the same username / password for both. You must register with a valid e-mail address to complete the registration process. Register at the following links...

    MAIN site (lets you add records / CDs to database as well as post reviews on them):
    http://www.discomusic.com/members/register.php

    Forum (lets you discuss music on the message boards):
    http://www.discomusic.com/forums/pro...?mode=register

    Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.
