Hey Markey. Do you know if there was ever an extended version of Lies?
My gift to myself for Christmas was the Billboard Charts that Giovanni offered to us a while back. I obtained them from a great guy named Mike in Illinois, who originally got them from Giovanni. Anyway...I thought it might be interesting to post from time to time the #1 Disco songs of the week, to sort of jog our memories of what we were listening to and dancing to back in tha day.
The lists start in October, 1974 with Gloria Gaynor's "Never Can Say Goodbye" and go to the end of 1975 with Madonna's "Like A Virgin". What a great time for dance music!
Technically, the charts from 1975 & 1976 for the first week of January were New York only. The national rankings didn't begin until mid-1976.
Anyway, here's the list for the first week of January by year:
1975 "I'LL BE HOLDING ON" - Al Downing
1976 "MIGHTY HIGH/EVERYTHING IS LOVE"- Mighty Clouds Of Joy
1977 "DON'T LEAVE ME THIS WAY" - Thelma Houston
1978 "ONCE UPON A TIME" LP - Donna Summer
1979 "LE FREAK/I WANT YOUR LOVE/CHIC CHEER" - Chic
1980 "SECOND TIME AROUND/IN THE SOCKET"- Shalamar
1981 "CELEBRATION" - Kool & The Gang
1982 "YOU CAN/ FIRE IN MY HEART" - Madleen Kane
1983 "LIES/BEACH CULTURE" -Thompson Twins
1984 "SAY IT ISN'T SO " - Hall & Oates
The list does sort of make your life flash before your eyes, doesn't it?

Hey Markey. Do you know if there was ever an extended version of Lies?
Find them and destroy them!
Hi Paul,
Yes, definitely there is a 12" of "Lies". I've got it. I checked allmusic and there is a 5:22 version available on "Greatest Mixes: Best Of The Thompson Twins". If you are interested, I'll check the timing on the 12" this evening.
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Yes, I am interested Marky. Thanks.
Find them and destroy them!
My 12" copy of (Bigger and Better) Lies" clocks in at 6:35. Still a great song!

Paul,
My copy of "Lies" is the same as Bernie's. The extended is 6:35, the dub is 6:18, and "Beach Culture" is 6:48. It's on Arista Records.
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Thanks Marky and Bernie. I'll probably settle for the cd. I wonder why they didn't put the full length 12" versions on cd?!

Ironically, I have this as a 7" single. I say ironically because I have almost nothing from this era, and I didn't even buy it -- it was given to me by someone I once knew because it was produced by Chris Franke (formerly of Tangerine Dream).
It's quite a weird track, with no real lyrics but a bunch of vocal sounds, mostly "Din Dahh Da" repeated over and over again, with a few synth notes here and there. Catchy and disposeable.
Does that trigger your memory at all?
Hi Graham,
Maybe, it does trigger my memory...but I can't get "Da Da Da" by Trio out of my head to make room for "Din Da Da".
Ironically, I ran across the George Kranz record Saturday, but it was a remix from the early 1990's, so I decided not to waste my money.
BTW, the book I promised you is on it's way...sorry, I'm sooo late. I'm a lazy pig about stuff like this.
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Hey Marky. Looks like this was a particularly good week for music. I really like a lot of those songs this week.
Again, what happened to today's music?
Find them and destroy them!
The Billboard Disco Charts for the first week of March, were pretty much the same as last week, with the exception of one new entry in 1975.
Of interest to me, Tom Moulton's Disco Action column reported " the latest bit of news from Boston is that the hottest newcomer, according to audience response and local dj's is "Save Me" by SilverBIRD."
SilverBIRD's record is the #1 seller at Downstairs Records and #13 at Colony. Next week, SilverBIRD's name will be corrected to Silver Convention.

I think that that Trommeltranz could more frequently found just as DINDADA by GEORGE KRANZ, which was a german.
I've got a DINDADA Remix EP on CARDIAC RECORDS from 1991 with these tracks on it:
1. Berlin to Brooklyn mix Feat. Doug Lazy
2. Berlin to Brooklyn Dub 4.50
3. I did it the steinberg mix 4.17
4. Benadef Dub Edit 6.30
I'm not saying that it's actually good; the rapping by doug Lazy is actually very odd; but the Benadef Dub Edit is a nice early dubby house mix that I regarly play.
Fits into a collection of oldskool house like "Jack your body" , "Bass how low can you go" , "S-express" etc.
The Disco/Dance charts for the first week of April were as follows:
1975: (5th wk) "BAD LUCK" - Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes
1976: (6th wk) "THAT'S WHERE THE HAPPY PEOPLE GO" - The Trammps
1977: (3rd wk) "DO WHAT YOU WANNA DO" - T-Connection

1980: (3rd wk) "FUNKYTOWN/ALL NIGHT DANCING" - Lipps, Inc.

1982: (7th wk) "GLAD TO KNOW YOU/QUESTIONAIRE/3,000,000 SYNTHS - Chas Jankel

1984: (1st wk) "GIVE ME TONIGHT" - Shannon
