My 12 inch version of The Ring's Savage Lover times in at 6:40.
But I have noticed on ebay, versions that time in at 8:40.
eBay: THE RING - SAVAGE LOVER 12" SINGLE - DISCO
And both are on Vanguard records.
Is the 8:40 a misprint, or is there an 8:40 version?
And if so, how does it differ?
Needle,
I "believe" that is a misprint. Checking all three copies I own: commercial 12", promo 12" and the original album all contain a 6:40 version. The one on eBay is not the original pressing, but a later reissue so perhaps someone goofed.

 Thanks Bernie.
The one I posted was the second one I have seen on ebay in the past few weeks.
And I just couldn't go on living if there was a longer version and I didn't own it.
I hate when that happens (misprints). I bought a 1979 12" of War that included Me & Baby Brother. The listing said it was a 6 minute version, but when I received it, it was only 3 minutes. It wasn't worth the effort to return the record for a refund.

 I just discovered by chance while checking Ebay prices that my Melba Moore promo 12" of "Standing Right Here" which is actually labeled as a 'double A sided " copy was mis-labeled and it actually includes the 4:45 version of "This is it" on the B side :-P:-P:-Plike all others, walla surpriseBy the way it sold for 112.00 USD a few days back.
«Savage lover» was a big hit in Mexico, the country where I lived at the time. It was one of the biggest disco hits, at the point that on the US sleeve the group thanks its Mexican friends (I think the song was known only in Mexico!). Anyway I bought the 12" in 1979 and it says 8:40, but it's a misprint. The 12" version is the 6:40 lp version (I've got both records and I checked it out). But there is another version, Mexican too. At the time I had a tape recorder and my parents allowed me to buy some tapes from time to time. So in a Mexican supermarket I bought the «Savage lover» tape. On the A-side it's the vocal version clocking at 12:05 and on the B-side is the instrumental vesrion clocking at 13:05. But both songs are just re-edits and not remixes and they are not very interesting because it's the same thing all the time. The worst is the instrumental version based on the 12" B-side instrumental: with an original 3:30 song they made a boring 13:05 one! [Beware of the Mexican 12"s with different timings sold on the net : generally it's the usual song re-edited. I have a 7:25 version of «I can't help myself» by Bonnie Pointer but the additional time is just the intro (badly) pasted at the end of the song. The coloured vinyl is the only interest we can find in those Mexican 12"s.]
Between 1997 and 2002 Max/PolyGram Mexico released six volumes of a disco collection called «Por fin es viernes» with almost only 12" versions. They are so-so compilations because the songs are not taken from the masters but from previous cd's or 12's. Anyway, «Savage lover» is on volume 2 and the next single, «Jump», is on volume 3. For instance, on Volume 1 we have «Love and desire» by Arpeggio (the 8:50 version), «Panic» by French Kiss, «Queen of fools» by Jessica Williams... I don't know if these records are available outside Mexico.
