I`m not sure about 70`s disco but she did a dance/HINRG track in 1988 called THE RUMOUR...
Did Olivia Newton John ever do Disco? I have seen a clip of her singing Love Is Alive on her TV special "Only Olivia" from 1977 and it seemed a bit disco. Did she every record disco.
I`m not sure about 70`s disco but she did a dance/HINRG track in 1988 called THE RUMOUR...
Let's see.
Her Grease songs were played in the disco. (You're The One That I Want, Summer Nights)
Her songs from Xanadu (about a roller-disco) were played. (Xanadu, Magic)
And Physical was played.
None of these fall into "real" disco, but she was represented in the clubs.
She also did a song called A Little More Love. It came and went fast.
There's a nice "morning music" track from the mid-Eighties titled "Soul Kiss" that was a 12"....ONJ had sorta peaked by then--but I liked this one...around 110 bpm if I recall correctly....:-o
Then there is faster Hi-NRG track-- "The Rumour"--I heard this played in LA bars in the later Eighties.8)
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."

"PHYSICAL" was a massive hit in the USA and did get a Hot Tracks Remix for the club-types---however, it was so over-played on the radio by then...I don't recall it being played in the clubs that much...but maybe it was? :icon_question:;-)
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
There was also Twist Of Fate.

And so back to the original question, IMO, no she never did "disco" song though she did do many nice songs some of which were quite danceable![]()
I gotta check out that pettibone remix. Knowing him, I'm sure it's quite good. Have you heard it Graham?
Find them and destroy them!
Definitely also remember 'The Rumour' played on Saturday nights at the London Apprentice club nights in London. I know there was also a 7min version of physical around don't know if it was more discoey or not.

OLIVIA's songs were played in clubs but were not traditional disco.
PHYSICAL did so well but MCA refused to release a commercial extended version. The DJs had also been asking them for a proper remix of MAGIC the year before ; but they never relented.
HEART ATTACK,SOUL KISS,LIVIN' IN DESPERATE TIMES and TWIST OF FATE did get remixed ; and got some club play.
Shep Pettibone did a fabulous remix of THE RUMOUR that mirrored ELTON JOHN's own I DON'T WANNA GO ON WITH YOU LIKE THAT ; he had written both songs so many jocks played them back to back.
The remixes got her played but during the disco years ; she never took the real plunge.

I don't know these CD's, but they have me drooling.![]()
I'm gonna keep my eye out for them.
Do you know where to order them?
And I think they could have done a remix of Xanadu at the time of it's original release. When you look at the film, there is a lot of drums before the song starts. I think that would have made a great intro on a 12 inch release. Sort of like Beat the Clock(Sparks) or when they remixed Souvenirs (Voyage).
Hey Vid
Thanks so much for that, I really enjoyed it. Being a Livvy fan where I came from was so like coming out of the closet. I think I shall dig out my 12" and convert to MP3 forthwith.
Cheers
Just in case some of you missed this one,

This wasn't from the disco era. But in the early 90's Giorgio Moroder produced her single I Need Love. It was an original recorded for her Back To Basics cd, which was mostly a greatest hits compilation. It was a slower dance tune. But I think it had at least one up-tempo remix.
