I heard a rumor that Chic was recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Does anyone know if this is true? I don't pay much attention to R&R events, but this tidbit made me wonder if any other disco act had been inducted before Chic?

Yes, Chic is a nominee on the ballot of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 2003, but winners will be announced only in December 2002, apparently not earlier.

The Dells, a multi-decade act who released the soulful disco songs "All About the Paper" and "Happy Song" in 1980, are also nominees this time around. Shalamar, Evelyn "Champagne" King, and Teddy Pendergrass are also eligible.

    I hope Chic wins.

I think Chic stands a good chance of getting the nod for induction. They are one of the few disco groups per se that gets any recognition from the rock world. Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Singles of All Time (the first one in the late 1980's) listed "Good Times". That was the ONLY thing that could have been perceived as "DISCO" on the list.

So...I guess it depends on who the other contenders are...BUT, Chic will invariably get inducted this year or next or the year after that or...

Several artists who made contributions to Disco/Dance have been inducted: Isaac Hayes (2002), Michael Jackson (2001), Earth, Wind & Fire (2000) and Curtis Mayfield, Dusty Springfield, and pushing it a bit I realize...The Staple Singers (1999). Hey, I can dance to "Respect Yourself"!!!!
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

That's not pushing it too far, Marky. I thought EVERYBODY was dancing to "I'll Take You There".

    They already annouced the inductees.
No chic this year, but I assume they will be nominted again.
Take note this IS their FIRST year of eligability as Dance dance Dance came out in 77.

Prince is a SURE THING for next year, though.
