Thread: Censuring this Board

One of the members wrote me an E-mail that some of his postings were erased because he mentioned a different site. I, myself, had the same problem a couple of months back. My message to Bernie is let people post their thing as long as they're not being vulgar. You Mr. Bernie, seem to me that are afraid of competition and an enemy of Free Speech. If you're board is as good as you claim it is, you shouldn't be afriaid of somebody making a remark about a different site.

    Good day to all !!!

Hmmm. That's strange. I have posted info about deephousepage.com and it has not been removed. It's my other favorite site. It has tons of mixes that you can play offline or download, a suggested reading section, photos and a humongous message board where people can talk about disco, house or anything else in their personal lives or world events. There is a LOT OF LOVE on that board!

But, the difference between that one and Bernie's site is that G-Man (the moderator of the Deep House site) installs and maintains servers for a living. His servers run on a university's network. His mixes take up 9 gigs! So, basically G-Man's site is not costing him a penny, whereas Bernie supports this one as best he can through sponsors and reciprocal marketing.

It is kinda tricky for him to allow us to post other sites or other places to buy music because if his sponsors found out, they might stop sponsoring this board. He has asked that if we do post another site to buy music, that we do it within a post rather than as the title of our post so as not to draw undue attention.

It's one thing to run a decent Web site if you have the backing of a university or tons of money, and yet another if you are struggling to do it on your own resources.

I hope Bernie responds to you about the removal of yours and your friend's posts because of mentioning another site. That has not been my experience.

    Fantomas,

You are referring to ClassicDisco's blatant and unacceptable posting of a site that won't even acknowledge my presence even though I asked them for reciprocal linking.

It's amazing how many other music sites won't even acknowledge this site, but I should be forced to provide welfare to them? ---NOT FAIR.

I don't ask anything from anyone. I've worked hard since 1996 to put this site where it is. I didn't get lucky. It's all through hard work and sometimes not paying my essential bills on time to keep this site up for all of you to enjoy. This site is a labor of love and is NOT a commercial site.

I resent the fact that some try and use my site and bandwidth, which I pay dearly for, to plug another site. It's not fair and I won't tolerate it. Has nothing to do with free speech or being afraid. Show some common sense and respect for crying out loud. I graciously provide this space for everyone to discuss Disco and don't charge anything for it. As Leanmean noted, there are proper ways of posting.

ClassicDisco, is no stranger to ruffling just about everyone's feathers on this board at one time or another. Some of the board members have even gone as far as to call him a troll and not respond to his posts. Even with all that, I have not prevented him from posting relevant topics in the past. His last posts were unacceptable.

If anyone has problems with this then they should find another place to visit.

Tell It Like It Is, Bernie! Most of us know how you struggle to keep this board going. We also know that you've had to put up with this type of rant before and explained your reasons and guidelines. If I remember, you even relaxed the rules to accommodate your members. Members should reciprocate and show you respect.

ClassicDisco stated quite clearly that he does not like this board or what a lot of the members are about. Why, then, should he feel he has the right to promote here free of charge?

    Nick

Would it be okay to post a link to a website that one of us made? I've made or helped make a few websites (including a disco site), though I've abandoned them all a long time ago, so I wouldn't bother to promote any of them. But if I were to make a new website, I would want to let eveyone else here know about it, so that's why I asked that question. Of course, if I were to make a new site, I would definitely provide a link to this one because this site rules.
