Nano, allmusic.com lists a Keith Jarrett 11:02 instrumental from about that time. Could that be it?
My older sister had a 7' single with a song called "Rotation". I think it's not the Herb Alpert recording (on the "Rise" LP), because this one was on Polydor, and from around '74/'75. It was the same song in both sides (Pt. 1 and Pt. 2) and I think it was an instrumental track. I remember I liked it.
Any guess?

Mmmm... nope! Jarrett was recording on ECM at the time. Plus this is entirely a different sound from his. I believe it was some kind of instrumental dance track. And I'm sure the single was from Polydor (red centerpiece with black letters and that nice logo with the name in white).
Well... Four years have passed since I posted this topic. Last weekend I was browsing a sale of 7' singles at the fair (which I never do) and what do I find? "Rotation". Finally it was not "Pt 1 - Pt 2" but an instrumental B-side, the A-side it's called "Ra Ta Ta" and sounds like bubblegum (pretty bad). My confusion was probably because the band is ALSO called Rotation.
The track is still pretty good, there's no trace of the year but it sounds a bit like Booker T. & The MG's, only with piano and flute instead of organ and guitar. Instrumental, pretty funky, a simple but likable melody. Take note that I was like 10 years old when I heard it... in fact it's one of the first tunes I remember liking for myself.
Here's the info in case someone knows these guys:
Polydor 7' single - 33 RPM - 2176013
ROTATION (1313)
Side A: RA TA TA (Juwens-Hailburg) 2:07
Side B: ROTATION (Juwens) 2:30
No traces of these guys in AllMusic.com. Apparently they're German and the full names are Chris Juwens and Christian Hailburg. They released a single called "Pinky Pink" in 1971, also in Polydor.
Other people that recorded songs by Chris Juwens: Antoinne ("Ra Ta Ta" in 1969), Buzz Bennett, Dave O'Brien, Dorados, Joe Dassin, Peter Orloff, Tony Marshall, Orchester Roy Robbins, Siw Malmkvist.
From this .ch (Rep. Checa?) page: http://www.hitparade.ch/showperson.a...e=Chris+Juwens
Here's info and lyrics of the Rotation's version of "Ra Ta Ta": this French page says it was released in 1970:

Here's a German forum where somebody asks -I think- if Rotation was a German or an English group:
http://deutschesgold.de/forum/msg.ph...61b8426775c84d
However I don't speak Czech nor French nor German! I even find Russian pages, but no English!
Do you know anything about these people? At least translate the Deutsche part? Help!

Hi,
Here is a wonderful website for translating text from other languages:
http://world.altavista.com/
Sometimes the translation will be very literal. If it looks confusing, try one sentence at a time.
Hope this helps.

I just used that translator (German to English) and it was pretty decent, of course with some words out of order but you could guess it anyway.
The German forum states these facts:
-the group was from Hamburg and apparently they didn't release any LP, just singles
-they were a studio-only group, produced in Berlin
-the "Ra Ta Ta/Rotation" single was released in May 1970
-there was another single (Dec 1971) which featured an instrumental "Rotation 3"; I don't understand clearly but apparently it also had "Rotation" in the other side (maybe that was the single I had)
-they had some success in France and the records were also released in Russia
Thanks guys

The german forum actually said it had been available on a compilation available in Moskow at the time, and was therefore found as well in East Germany (DDR: Deutsche Demokratische republik: democratic republic of Germany). Don't be fooled by "democratic" though, the only countries claiming to be democracies/republics in their title were commie dictatorships (USSR, China(People's Republic of) and so forth. Not relevant in the music field, but it never hurts to learn.
.ch is Switzerland, and stands for Confédération Helvétique/Confederazione Helvetica
