Excellent job, Bernie!
Interesting that Donna Summer takes 4 of the top 5 spots. Everyone loves Donna
It feels as though I've been working on this Top 500 list for eons. While there are a few small links... to add to the Top 500, it is essentially done!!! Just click on the "Top 500" button at the very top of any page here at DiscoMusic.com to view it.
You'll notice the extra info and different formatting compared to the original Top 500. I hope this makes it easier to vieew and makes it more useful to all. In addition, I will now be accepting your Top Disco song submissions on an ongoing basis. I look forward to everyone's comments here.
In closing a big thanks to all who so graciously took time out to help me collect BPM and label info. The biggest contributors have been credited on the new Top 500 page. Thanks again!

I feel relieved now. I know all the songs in the top ten!
Good work Bernie! Congratulations!
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)
Nice going Bernie.
OK, did you ever post your top 25 for this recent survey?
I'm still trying to take in this new top 500. So far I think the overall quality of the songs are better than the previous. It seems right now though that the old list had greater diversity especially at the top.
Find them and destroy them!
Dear Friends!
This is really funny...DISCO became DONNA
SUMMER...but I have nothing against it,
because I love her too.
Cosmic Love & Kisses From Sirius & DARKTUNES
Fantastic to see the Top 500 up and going!!!
And great to see a lot of obscure songs in the top 500 too. Bernie it looks like you've done a lot of hard yakka getting this Top 500 up and going and it's all payed off well.
Anyhow there's just one thing to mention. I can't help noticing that the dates of a number of the songs are out by a number of years. Examples:
Trammps - Disco Inferno 1978 (I've always known that this song was dated 1976)
Al Downing - I'll Be Holding On 1970 (I thought this song came out in 1974)
Village People - YMCA 1979 (This song topped the Aussie charts in 1978)
Trammps - Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart 1975 (This song was recorded 1972 and considered by critics as the first disco song)
And there's others.
Which leads me to this question, are these dates of the record release or the year they have topped the charts?
I just thought I should mention this to you.
Australia mate! The land of many great funkateers!
I see "Ring My Bell" and "I Will Survive" made the lists even though people trash those songs repeatedly as being overplayed, commercial pop.
Thank you guys,
I appreciate everyone taking time out to vote for their faves. Perhaps too many submitted votes that were eh, eh, eh... full of fucking Donna Summer votes! I love Donna so don't get me wrong.
Here's the story... A Donna Summer fan club got hold of the news about the voting for the Top 500 and posted all over the web for all Donna Summer fans to vote at DiscoMusic.com. Their votes were loaded with Donna entries which I feel was unfair. Unfortunately since they were valid votes and I didn't stipulate terms against this, I had to count them. To make matters worse these boneheads were the ones that kept repeatedly voting for such stuff as "Ring My 'Fucking' Bell" and "Y fucking M fucking C fucking A."
While "I Feel Love" was leading all along as the #1 song, the top 4 spots as well as others would not have gone to Donna Summer had these people not been heavy handed and unfair with their voting. It burned me up since I put so much effort into making this Top 500 as realistic as possible.
If you notice I am now taking ongoing votes for your Top 30 songs to be used for the next revision of the Top 500 perhaps for late next year. This time around there will be a strict two song cap on any one artist or group. I've increased it to 30 songs from 25 to help you guys outThe link to the voting form appears on each of the Top 500 lists. I've already started getting new votes and of course one of them was a guy who picked all Donna Summer songs for the first 17 places  - his submission was promptly trashed!
I hope I was able to explain this as clearly as possible and that you enjoyed veiwing the results despite the above. Thanks again to all those who helped out and took time to vote. I look forward to your new votes!!!

Thanks for that in more ways than one Bernie. Like you I love Donna but gimme a fucking break will ya! I really didn't want to come off like some bitter ******** because there was so much Donna music in the top 10 and she wasn't even on my list.
Yep, I'll be voting again.

Wow, Bernie!!!
That is FASCINATING info!!! I wondered what happened with ALL the DONNA songs!!! I mean, we all love her--BUT give someone else a chance, right????
So did all the DS fan club members actually register as members here???? I guess they had to in order to vote...BUT the new members haven't swelled that much??!! I guess, just enough to skew the votes, eh?
Well, Bernie....your post explains a lot...but the final product is still excellently put together. I have a few quibbles with BPM's (I mean "Hot Stuff" and "Bad Girls" are mixed together using the SAME beat--how could one be 122 and the other 129??!!! But, it doesn't really matter.![]()
We'll fix it for next time.![]()
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Exactly my point! Like everyone here, I love Donna Summer, but this was completely uncalled for. It's not as though they chose one or two Donna songs as there faves and then listed other tracks. These people filled almost their entire submission with Donna tracks and then for the last few they put stuff like "Ring My Bell"...On 2002-10-25 17:14, markydefad wrote:

No, in order to encourage as many people as possible to vote there was no requirement to register. So did all the DS fan club members actually register as members here???? FunkyDude also pointed this out. I'm sure there are a number of corrections that still need to be made so I'd appreciate if you guys could point them out with the correct info.

No one is a bigger fan of Donna than I am, but even I was frustrated by the lack of variety in the final list.
I'm not sure if limiting us to only two songs by any one performer for the next survey is the answer, but of course that's your call, Bernie.
By the way, Bernie: What was the total number of ballots submitted?
\"...a once in a lifetime feeling that returns every week...\"
Bernie you did an awesome job with thw Top 500 once again. I agree with some of you in the lack of variety on this new list, specially in the first 5 places: Donna! Donna! Donna!
Okay I also love Donna but it's really frustrating at one time that soem people think DISCO only consisted of Donna, Ring My Bell, YMCA, That's The Way I Like It and other similar songs; when DISCO was much more than that!
Maybe next time you can be more strict on the votes Bernie to prevent this saturation from only one artist in the first places of the Top 500.

Thanks, Bernie, for the clarification on all the Donna Summer votes. I was really surprised to see her plastered throughout the top 10 and wondered what the hell happened. Just this once, I wish the 'outsiders' had stayed outside or, at the very least, voted sensibly. A lot of people put a lot of time and work into their lists only to have them skewed by this nonsense. I like Donna as much as anyone but, "Enough is Enough"!.

Okay, okay I'll come clean. My first response to this top 500 is a buttkissing response  , but here's what I honestly think.
I'm pleased that there's obscure songs in the top 500 such as "Sun Sun Sun" by Jakki, "I Believe In Miracles" by Jackson Sisters etc... and REALLY pleased that "Movin'" by the Brass Construction is in the charts.
BUT BUT BUT!!!!! What pisses me off is that the top 100 consists of MAINLY pop disco songs that Aussie retro radio stations belt the living **** out of such as "YMCA", "Ring My Bell" (ding-aling-aling!!!), "I Will Survive", "Hot Stuff", "Stayin' Alive" (uh uh uh uh stayin' alive stayin' alive), "Dancing Queen" (give ABBA a rest PUUUUULLLLEEEEEAAAASSSEEE!!!) etc... I don't hate the songs, just sick of them. They are good, but are not the best and don't even compare to the songs further down the charts.
And yeah, Donna Summer is an excellent artist and does fantastic disco, but all top 4 places taken up by ONE artists, BLOODY OATH!!! I think I liked the top 10 of the old Top 500 better, at least it was more realistic.
And I can't believe that Unisputed Truth's "You + Me = Love" is at bloody 460!
And there's no Kay Gees songs, damn!!!
Bernie, maybe you should bar the Donna Summer fan club from voting next time  . Nah just kidding, better solution is to make a separate chart called the "Top 20 Donna Summer" disco songs.
Anyhow that's my honest opinion of the new top 500 even though I'm being blunt, I'm disappointed with half of the top 100 but am happy with the the rest of the top 500 and the extra info that goes with it.
Still Bernie, you've put so much hard yakka into getting this Top 500 together and did an excellent job at doing it.

hey the top 500 is ok but only ok , what i dont get is that they are so many djs here , how come its like this everybody should go back and look at their records again they are great tracks that are not there oh well dont want to complain to much , i love this site . thanx Bernie for this community ! RU.
**Dreamin\' about those disco lights**
Hey Bernie....now that we have all the BPMs and record labels...why not redo the entire chart and only allow members to vote.....current members....just lock out all newcomers and outsiders from the voting...bad idea from the start, in retrospect......then we will see the honest and fair charting that shoulda been....why wait until next year...not worth it....people will laugh at the absurdity......for me, the old chart is more accurate than this Donna-saturated one....(and I am a BIG Donna fan, btw)....think about it.....scrap this and redo!
All of us will pitch in to help, won't we....this time!
I Believe In The Boogie, But Lovin\' Is Really My Game.
is it to late to submit songs for the Top500
I really wanted to submit some
bought I have moved from apartment to aparment meaning
I haven't really had time to concentrate on getting a list inorder but if I could gert 4 days from today I think I could coome up with something.....
I think the problem with the Donna Imperialism
is that people tend to choose fanatical measures when voting.
Just take Movie websites. Where I like to read the user reviews 95% of them are either 1/5 or 5/5 stars. Because their goal is not to give the movie a fair raiting but to either raise or lower the average rating of the movie.
As 2,3,4 only seem to keep the average where it already is.
I think the Donna phenmenon was the same thing. Obviously there was some consipiracy among the Donna fans that decided to make sure she didn't go unforgotten into this list. Unfortunatley I must say that I am strongly doubting that the People submitting the all top25 Donna charts could be one and the same users. Using many different Emails etc to make it seem like he is Someone else.
To me this would be useless and untrue.
To Pack The list only with Funk or only With Bernard Edvards tracks just to raise their average a notch.
I think limiting the amount of nominatinos as Jeff suggested is bad.
I would instead go for a limited list.
Where only forum members that have posted say over 88times are allowed to submit their votes.
Well, it's sad to see that a few great tracks (which were in my vote..lol) made it but at the bottom of the list. "Give Me Your Love" by Soccer and "Black Sun" by Black Sun. Im glad to see though that quite a bit of Costandinos tracks made it. One track that I was sad to see didnt make it which did last time (which i voted for in the last one too) is "I Dont Wanna Be A Freak" by Dynasty, a pure hard hitting club classic from 1979, one of my alltime faves. Well, enough crying..lol, I'll vote again when its time again for the next one.

Oh, and also....FUCKIN' ****!!!!!!!!!!!!! that Donna Summer stuff along with all the mainstream garbage twards the top was surprising beings this site is filled with people who know true disco music. Donna is ok, I used to be a huge fan of her's when I didnt know any better. Alot of early Donna Summer I still love cause its pure work of Giorgio Moroder, tracks like "Wasted" and "Summer Fever". But the top 40 pop Donna stuff (except for Last Dance) I think I could do without for the next 100 years. Anyway, I do think the idea of only 2 tracks by the same artist would be a good rule unless you have some Alec R Costandinos fan club people come out of some secret club and use all his aliases..lol. Although, I think maybe there should be an Alec top 30 track vote, or better yet, an Alec LP top 30 vote, what ya think?

Well If anyone tries reading this list
minus Donna Summer
You will get the impression that it is a very good and complete list inlcuding all aspects and shades of disco
I am curious of what the list would look like if some was to make all the vote of the consipiration Clan obsolete...

Just a thought of my mind
roll my eyes like time
I'm really glad to see 'Baby Baba Boogie' by Gap Band & 'Ive Got The Next Dance' by Deniece Williams & Trippin on the Moon' by Cerrone in the new Top 500 as they were conspicuous by their absense in the old one IMO.
...ya gotta beat the street......
I don't vote in "Summer Love"/Musique (#196) but this song is wonderful, I guess.
I think "Dancin"/Crow Heights Affar (#303) and "I Believe in Miracles"/Jackson Sisters (#488) have some influence of "Theme From Shaft" by Issac "Stranger in Paradise" Heyes.
"Love To Love Baby"/Donna Summer (#11) has female orgams but Silvia did first. "Heaven Must Have Sent You"/Bonnie Pointier (#196)(she's is beautiful, I think she is a Motown Princess) has a little aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh too.
