Are there any Rocky Horror Picture Show fans here?? I just saw part of it for the first time tonight on VH-1 and think it's cool. I like Dr. Frank-n-furter (Tim Curry).

I saw it eons ago. I know it has that cult appeal but I didn't get it. I know cult movies are supposed to be so bad they're good but I still thought it was bad. I've heard a lot of gay men like it. Can you explain the appeal or is it a gay thing, I wouldn't understand

I had heard about this movie for years but never saw it. Then again, I never thought I'd be interested in it. I became curious about the film after seeing some specials on it. Although I only got to see one half of it, I thought it was good. I think it's just plain escapist fun, edgy but harmless. I think seeing Tim Curry in that outfit was eye candy for me, even if I don't follow the whole transvestite thing.

I think this is one of those movies that Marky was talking about in another thread that is "better with an audience". I saw it, thought it was OK. But then, one of the entertainers at the Anvil was ALWAYS 'synching/sinking' that 'Sweet Transvestite". I think he killed it for me.

I know in NY theaters they make an event of showing this at midnight, everyone comes dressed up as the characters and just has a ball talking back to the movie.

Nick, I never saw the entire thing through but saw most of it during various seatings...never in the theater tho....I mostly wanted to see that blonde muscle guy? Who was he and was he ever in anything after that?....

The blond muscle man in RHPS is quite handsome, and built!! Just seeing Frank chase him around the ramp in his high heels and tripping every now and then was hysterical!!

The actual movie is lame, lame, lame. You have to see this not just with an audience, but with the right audience. If people show up with umbrellas, toast, rolls of toilet paper, etc., then you've come with the right crowd. They'll know every line, and respond in kind. You won't be able to hear much of the movie, but that's just as well.

This is generally only possible in cities that have rep theatres that show the flick every weekend.

I've seen "Rocky Horror Picture Show" plenty of times in my life (though I lost count how many times a long time ago), though I haven't seen it in years. I loved the audience participation in the theaters. That is what makes it. I used to bring all the necessities (water gun, toilet paper, rice, etc.) until the theatre I went to banned most of that stuff. I think the movie is cool, and I like the songs, especially "Time Warp". I don't know if I could stay up for it these days (The Nuart theatre here in Los Angeles, where I went to see it, has been showing the movie for over 15 years), but I wouldn't mind seeing it again, and it's not the same seeing it on videotape. That movie is definitely in a league of its own.

It's not really a gay thing, at least not where I'm from. It was very much a "goth" thing though. For those who don't know, the "goths" are a group of folks who dress in all black (preferably vintage) outfits and obsess about vampires and stuff like that. They're heavy into the self-pity trip, and all things morbid. My take on it is that they've all read a few too many Anne Rice novels. Unlike a lot of conformist groups, the goths seldom cause trouble. But it just cracks me up how they all seem to think that they're so "unique", despite how they all dress/act/live exactly the same.

I took a wonderful vacation with friends to Key West for my first time when I was 21 (1977). We had an incredible time, from snorkeling to bar hopping (does anyone remember the Monster Bar?) and just plain reveling and carousing. I thought we did everything there was to do in Key West and then some.

We took lots of photos of the old houses and unique looking bars (Capt. Tony's was really cool loooking on the outside). One of the things I took a photo of was a house with a sign on the front that read, "Rocky Horror Picture Show."

None of us knew what it was. We thought that was the name of the theatre. We decided not to waste a great vacation by sitting in a movie theatre. We might miss out on something exciting!

Boy, did we! When that show FINALLY came to O'Town the following year (or was it two years later? - Podunk Orlando!), it was the rave. If only we had seen it when we were in Key West!!! It would have topped off the whole vacation with a bang!

It was a midnight show in Orlando. The first time I saw the film, no one was doing all those live shenanigans. Myself and all the gay crowd LOVED IT because it was very GAY!

The next time I saw it, someone told me in advance to bring all these props: newspaper, rice, squirt gun, whathaveyou. I couldn't imagine what for. There were all sorts of straight people there this time - but no Goth crowd as that didn't come into being in O'Town until the early 90s.

Well, let me tell you I thought the crowd, the costumes they wore, the way they knew every line and the stuff they brought was really interesting. I couldn't hear the dialog though because of everyone shouting it out. "WEISSSSS!" "Dr. Scott! Janet. Dr. Scott! Janet." I guess I've had trouble hearing for longer than I thought! Anyway, the crowd who started that here was mostly straight. I thought it was very liberal of them to embrace OUR film and run with it the way they did!

I went several times with friends who had never experienced it until I became bored nearly to tears and could no longer take it.

I have had the soundtrack and video for years but couldn't bring myself to watch it.
I finally did and it brought back alot of memories. My favorite part is at the very end as they are all in the pool and Janet makes out with Magenta (I think it's Magenta). Uuummmm. Go Susan! Go Susan!

So far as the soundtrack goes, I always liked Meatloaf's number the best and of course "Time Warp" and well, "Sweet Transvestite."

It was really a trip to see Barry Bostwick on that sit-com (was it called The Mayor?) with Michael J. Fox.

I saw a "Where Are They Now" episode with the guy who played Rocky. He doesn't look like much now (hell, do any of us?!) and he said he was forever linked with that movie. But, he has "no regrets."

The seventies were great! Long may they rest!

"Spin City" was the sit-com. What role did Barry Bostwick have in "Rocky"? It's been so long since I've seen it. He wasn't "the muscle guy", was he?

I have never seen this movie. They had a showing of it when I was in college, but I never had a desire to see it.

I did see The Texas Chainsaw Massacre though. Ughhh!!!

If you liked "Rocky Horror", then I recommend you "Phantom of the Paradise", which is pretty similar, and made one year earlier by Brian DePalma.
No transexual fare, but lots of fun nonetheless.

Acustically and esp. from the message it is
more GlamRock to me, than GothicStuff.
I like the typical message in this movie,
which is typical for the 70ies:
"Don¥t Dream It, Be It!"
Janet was played by SUSAN SARANDON; and
TIM CURRY made later a solo-career with
"I Do The Rock" and (most important for us)
"Paradise Garage".
I think I really love "The Rocky Horror
Picture Show".
