Okay, Iwould like to hear what people think of Dr Phil. His show started in Australia about 2 weeks ago.

I had already seen him on Tuesdays on Oprah and must admit I had a hard time liking him. The fact is I don't. Particularly after the "Get Real Challenge' episodes on Oprah.

    What do you think?

When I first saw the name of this thread I misread Dr as DJ as that bloke has really stuck in my mind when the word "Phil" is used as he's well-known for whinging about us downloading MP3s    .

Getting to the point, I rarely watch Oprah but I end up catching the last 5 minutes when I set the timer on my VCR to tape the soap opera "Neighbours" when I'm not around to watch it. I'm hooked on "Neighbours". Anyhow I don't seem to have a problem with Dr Phil as he seems to give good advice to help people through their problems, otherwise he wouldn't be on the show if he was a shithouse doctor.

Anyhow discohunter what is it that you don't about Dr Phil? And what has he done in the "Get Real Challenge" episode that caused you to dislike him even more?

    Hi Funky Dude,

I don't disagree with you on the point that he gives good advice. I don't know, it's kind of hard to explain... but I think there are times when I find him too confronting and at times too hard on some of the people.

There was one of the Get Real Challenge episode I saw recently, where he must have given them "homework" and some of them must not have done it. The guy just went off - lost his cool - I mean these are adults he's talking too for goodness sake. Where does he get off talking to people like that?

Well, maybe it's just me, but that's just what I think anyway.

Hi Discohunter. Now I see what you mean. Although I haven't seen that episode but I imagine it's rather disturbing that he bloody blows his top at people like that. How did Oprah reacted to his outburst?

Maybe you should write a letter to Dr Phil asking why he got the shits with those people on that show.

Personally I thought this was just a new nickname for our Defender of the Establishment
    DJ Phil

When I then understood it was this other (I want to right Moron but shouldn't) so lets just say person.

    I got amused
I am not so found of his accent
I must say his advice is many times good
    but its subjective
and it hails on norms, ethics and values.
    Good Christian American Ethics.
And It just angers me that people have such low self esteem and self belief. That they go to a talk show and ask an adult to tell them how to live their life
so they can become "more happy" and "better" indivduals.
From a Sociological point one could argue that he is adjusting them or polishing their sharp ends so that they become better pieces of the jigsaw we call society.
But it is counter indviudlism and creativity
    and that is sad.

After all I think we should really put some doubt in what dr.Phil says since like
    Rene Descatres said
"The only thing we can not doubt, is that we doubt"
