Okay you fellow disco-rockers! (Outsider?) Which disco songs do you think had the best guitar licks?

My first pick is Donna Summers' "Hot Stuff."
I'm sure I'll think of more later.

The local Disco station here in Miami, 103.5, plays a version of Lime's "Unexpected Lovers" that has a very nice instrumental acoustic-guitar part toward the end of the song. It's sweet.

I'll leave the funky and jazzy Disco tunes to Blax, Jazz and Sammy I'll stick with Disco proper and go with "For Your Love" by Chilly and the Walter Gibbons remix of "Law and Order" by Love Committee.

Oh boy!! This is a tough question to me!!!

Hmmmmm.....OK, as Nile Rodger's fan, I have to pick Chic's song. So, the best guitar in a disco song (to me) is on:

    'Real People' by Chic.

    Peace

I'd have to go with Animotion- 'Obsession', the guitar solo in Baby O 'In the forest' or maybe Dennis Coffey's 'Wings of Fire'.

Must Say I support Motown on this one
Don't really know which one to pick
Want you back by Jackson 5
    isn't really disco
but the guitarr tune is what has made this song so catchy and popular....

Otherwise there is so much mentioning one wouldn't be fair
    Commodores - Machine Gun
Eddie Kendricks - Most of his stuff
Diana Ross - lotz of her stuff too
Secret Weapon - Must be the Music

Best guitar in a disco song? Uhmmmm... that's a tough choice! In terms of rythm guitar I have to agree with Blaxman: Niles Rogers is hard to beat. The guy set the standard for disco guitar; everything else after him was and has been a copy of his work.

In terms of guitar soloes I would have to say Eddie Van Halen's work in Beat It. I love the sound of that guitar!

Althoug it is not disco, I have always loved the guitar solo in The Commodores' "Sail On." Or is it "Easy"? I can't remember right now, the flu is killing me.

Compiling a playlist earlier today when I decided to play "Strawberry Letter 23" by Brothers Johnson. Listen to the guitars especially the riffs deep in the background.

I like "Slide" and "He's The Greatest Dancer" for their nice use of that instrument.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Jeff Beck's guitar tracks on Rod Stewart's "Infatuation" and Diana Ross' "Swept Away". Beck is one of the most distinctive guitarists ever.

I gotta go with the guitar use of the Chic guys (Rodgers & Edwards) on Norma Jean's "I Like Love" (1978). They utilize that instrument to pull me in at the very opening of the song, and don't let up for the next several minutes of bliss. Sigh . . .

There are so many to name, but I'd have to say the one that stands out in my mind right now are the Liquid Gold tracks, like Dance Yourself Dizzy, My Baby's Baby, and Substitute. Nice geeetaaar pickings on those tracks. Rhyze's 'Just How Sweet Is Your Love' has some nice guitar too.

Bernie: what's unusual about that solo (in "Strawberry") is that it's basically the same notes pretty much over and over...as I recall, even I was able to play most of that solo (when my fingers still moved the way I liked) but the solo was what made the song so jarring! I'd like to know who came up with the idea. I think the song's author, Shuggie Otis, released his own version a few years ago also. Another Brothers Johnson song, "Get the Funk out ma Face" had very simple riffs that were very effective nonetheless.

Alvaro: do you also like the acoustic guitars on Santa Esmeralda's songs? I sure do, especially on "Sevilla Nights".

Wow, this is an old post.

Best use of guitar, I would say is "Let's Love Dance Tonight" by Gary's Gang.

I opt for in Grace Jones: La Vie En Rose. I'm no fan of guitars, as they generally signify moshing and bad hygiene, but acoustic ones are fine. In "La Vie" the mellow sound of the instrument adds to the extravagant gesture.

I would have to agree the guitar in La Vie En Rose is very nice and always puts me in a great mood.

Some others I was thinking about:

Can U Handle It - Sharon Redd - Great Jazzy Sound
Thinking Of You - Sister Sledge
Crank It Up - Peter Brown
Looking for Love - Fat Larry's Band

Don't know if you would categorize this one as Disco, but I like it a lot..
Betcha Wouldn't Hurt Me - Quincy Jones.
