Disco CD of the week - Disco Connection

Hey Bernie. I don't know if you or anyone else has mentioned it but I like the CDs you display and update frequently at the top of each page. This gives me a chance to see stuff I might wanna buy and don't want to hunt down. Keep it up
    Find them and destroy them!

    Hey Paul,

I was just thinking the same thing when I came back on and saw the Disco Connection CD replaced E,P&P. GREAT IDEA, Bernie. I'm going to spend a little bit more right now and link up above and get that music. I don't know/have Lipstick (at least the song, I have the group ) and a full-length "You + Me = Love" on CD is worth every penny.

NickNack: I'm shocked that you don't know Lipstick. I always imagined it to be a record that no DJ would ever have been without. Was it just before your time, or is it one of those regional variation things or something? Quelle surprise!!
BTW: For me, this version doesn't hit as hard as the 'B' side of the original single. The (non) edits don't propel it along quite as well.

I can't say. What was the year of release? Do you have any label info? I'm assuming by the artist's name it would have been an import here. Am I mistaken?

Please share a little more --- this version vs. 'B' side. Is the flip side an extension or remix or are you saying this version is an edit?

NickNack: the year was '76 from memory and in Europe at least, it was on Atlantic.
The 'B' side to the 7" single was Lipstick part 2 and to me the difference is similar to that betwen the 7" edit of Fatback Band's 'Bus Stop' and the LP version. If you compare those two, the 7" edit actually helps the track to become more danceable. It's difficult to explain, maybe it's just down to knowing the 7" versions SO well. I really don't know, but to me there's more 'waffle' in this (LP) version of Lipstick.

    Nicky,

I think I may have mentioned this before--BUT "Lipstick" is theme music from the Paramount movie of the same name intended to make a star of Margaux Hemingway, but instead launching her little sister, Mariel.
    Can you say "sibling rivalry"???!!!

Anne Bancroft, Chris Sarandon, and Perry King costar in a movie that Leonard Maltin rates a "BOMB"!!!

I never heard that this was a big hit or a wanted tune until Napster and I read some lists like in Jussi's book. Maybe it was a European thing OR maybe because it's an instrumental, I just never knew what it was.

I did pick up this CD BTW--BUT haven't listened yet--THE STORY OF MY LIFE!!!!

It is a regional thing: The artist is French and I don't ever recall seeing anything about him in the US.

LadyBoy: That's a big surprise. The record encapsulated everything that was Disco at the time so perfectly. Was it never big on their DIsco charts?
