What artist had 4 top 40 "Dance" singles in the U.S.in the late 50's & early 60's and then recorded a "Shaft" answer disc in the early 70's?
No Curtis Mayfield isn't the answer, it is a difficult question. A clue is that his 4 hit singles all involve either dancing or dance crazes at that time.
Joe Bataan -Shaft (el regreso)
I was half expecting either Discodisk or Simon White to have figured this one out. The next couple of clues are ; His 1964 hit was co-written & produced by a certain Sylvester Stewart? & his 72' single was on Avco Records.
Your hint about Slyvester Stewart(aka SLY STONE) gave it away to me. He co-wrote the dance craze song C'MON AND SWIM for BOBBY FREEMAN.
The answer song to SHAFT is I AM SHAFT(YOU AIN'T SHAFT). It was done under the name R. B. Freeman.
