    Is This Disco? Nicolette Larson

Sorry to rip off the subject header! Does this Nicolette Larson song count as disco:

    Lotta Love

To me it's disco. Strange that the LP version is in a horrible mono. I downloaded an extended stereo mix a number of years ago, but I don't recall where it originated from.

The same album also yield a track called Rhumba Girl, which featured a reasonably funky syncopated groove.

I had a Warner Brothers 12 inch promo "Disco Mix" of "Lotta Love". It's in storage, and I haven't heard it in years, but I think that they filled out the existing LP track with more strings and extended it. I don't recall a break or anything else to make it more danceable.

I think it's one of those exceptions to the rule proving : Not every 12" release does a disco song make.

Right then Warner Bros. was becoming more liberal in what they wanted to promote thru this format ... just as arch rival CBS/EPIC was.

I guess a song that has a wailing sax and some strings must've meant disco to some .

But all one needs to do is listen to the rest of this album ....or even watch this video and see that this was not intended to be disco ....its sort of latter day hippie .....it could even qualify as one of those marginal songs that could have gotten some country play ....rather Crystal Gayle/ EmmyLou Harris like ....

Yes they did--Jim Burgess did the remix- extending the 3:11 LP track to 4:19 on the promo ( currently selling for $40-60 on Gemm--I just checked); Svend taped this for me and I think it's great--Burgess enhanced the beat very nicely---Keefe always has told me this was played as a "morning music" track at Troc--I never heard it--but mix it with "Year Of The Cat" :p:icon_exclaim: and it would be great!!! I need to compare the single or LP version to the 12" promo on the tape---but my memory is that it's more fluidly danceable with a more pronounced beat in this mix and, of course, longer..so maybe more instrumental was added. I'll check this when I can.:icon_exclaim:
