Isaac Haye's gateway song to the path leading toward the land of disco.
In 1973, Hayes produced a version of this song by another artist of whom it seems he felt was worthy ..... .

Anyone else come across this one in their pursuance of the music ??

can't say anything more about this SHAFT version .... since I bought the album sealed .....except to say this is the LP's only cut Isaac Hayes was involved with.

There is another tune on here I'd like to hear as well ... a 7:30 version of
MacARTHUR PARK .

The only versions of shaft I can remember are the orginal movie theme (also a hit single) , the Isaac Hayes remakecalled ''Shaft II'' from the album ''For The Sake of Love'' (which also had the popular 'zeke the freak')
and a 12" single called 'Shaft ' by Eddie and the Soul Band, if memory serves me well.

I got into Isaac Hayes again after seeing him live in London (summer 2007) and hearing his tunes on Smooth Groovers. :icon_razz:

It was actually spelled "Eddy & The Soul Band", they were dutch.
it was out on Break Records in 1985. The male voice rapping in this version of Shaft is the same voice singing on Phil & Company's "Tralala" from around the same area.
An additional vocoder-led version of Shaft was made by Van Twist in 1985. It was abominable!

I agree, but a recent transfer to vinyl and the chance to listen to it after all these years, had me feeling slightly less hostile toward it.

Eddy & the Soul Band's version was ACE....probably the VERY BEST VERSION of the toon (for dancing)!!

I liked The Eddy & The Soul Band version at the time but it didn't survive the 12" cull I had a few years back so I can't have liked it that much ! I seem to remember a late friend of mine directed a video for this or possibly the follow up ---another cover version maybe?
