Does anyone have any comments/opinions of a group called Breakwater? I read about them as I followed a thread about Imagination on Amazon.com, but unfortunately, there are no longer any sound bytes. So, I don't know what their music sounds like. I'll bet I'd know it if I heard it. Oh well. They got good reviews. Both CDs are way cheaper on CDNow.

    Hi Leanmean,

What I can say to you about Breakwater is:

Buy it!!! Even more if you says it's cheap!!

    GREAT group!!! I love it!!
They sounds as groups like Dayton, One Way, or Lakeside. If you like them, you probably will like Breakwater.

    Peace

I prefer the second one mainly because it has Say You Love Me Girl, a very stylish, smooth pop/soul gem. Lousy sleeve though...the other one has a much more interesting cover.

    Hi RU,

I'm really glad to know my info was useful to you! You're welcome!!

I think the album from 1978 is much better than 1980. It's more soulful. The other is much more in Cameo's early 80's style (P-funk influenced).
Anyway, I certainly would take both!!

    Peace

    Hey Blax - I didn't know there was a 1978 album!

Well Leanmean, the 1980 LP incl Say You Love Me Girl really took off on the rare groove scene here in London and by the mid-Eighties it was fetching silly prices. So they re-released a 12-inch with three of their best cuts on it, and happily I went and bought it!

I can safely say that Breakwater make very good quality soul/funk music! My advice - don't hesitate - buy with confidence!

If it moves - funk it!!

Take it from a person who has both LP's, plays them both immensely and has sung their praises many times here on the forum, buy both CD's without hesitation. Both LP's are great. The '78 LP features beautiful R&B/Soul ballads such as 'You know I love you' and 'Work it out' and the funk flavor of 'Do it till the fluid get's hot'. The '80 LP features the magnificent 'Say you love me girl', the funk/dance grooves of 'Splashdown time' and 'Release the beast' and the same R&B/Soul ballad flavor of the first LP with 'The love of my life'. From top to bottom there isn't one bad song on either LP. That should tell you something.

    Easy,

    Sam "ALL JAM"
