It's just after 1.00 a.m. and I'm listening to the new Black Music station 1 Xtra from the BBC, via a digibox, via TV, via Video recorder into one of my Minidisc recorders.
Currently is a show called Deviation which is a 2 hour live eclectic mix of modern day dance sounds. Just about 15 minutes ago I heard a track that was a real rip off of Roy Ayers 'Running Away' complete with jazzy vibes. It was really pretty good. All the sounds have a good groove and are more funky than the average stuff you hear on top 40 radio. They definitely have a black feel to them. It's the best radio I've heard in years, if only slightly monotonous 'cos I don't know any of the tracks.
The one great thing with DAB is the sound quality, which is excellent. Another great thing is that the BBC has great web sites where you can listen live and even hear last week's programme in some cases. However it's not that great in that I couldn't find out the name of the Roy Ayers soundalike, 'cos only last week's playlist was up at my time of viewing.
Can't wait for Jazz FM and KISS (although this may not be what I think it is) to come on stream in their digital glory, at the end of the month. LONG LIVE THE BBC!!

I'm totally hooked on http://www.soul24-7.co.uk
The best internet radio station ever IMHO.
The play lots of new soul and house/garage and when they decide to go back in time they really know their stuff - from 60's classic soul to 70's/80's funk and disco. I'm totally hooked.
Their presenters could use some lessons in flow but in the end it's the music that counts.
