Anyone know if the song "Do You Remember When" by J Geils Band (1981, Freeze Frame LP/CD)ever got the proper extended club mix and/or club play? It is one of my "guilty pleasures" songs, sorta new-wavey vocals, raunchy beats, and soaring strings(!!!), but is only 4:45 in length. (The song's finale alone still gives me goosebumps, sounding like the Love Unlimited Orchestra was in the same studio as the "rock+soul" J Geils Band.)

I remember loving this tune from "Freeze Frame" also. I don't recall ever seeing a 12" or hearing it played anywhere- except my own living room. It did have a sweeping string thing that I recall; why it was never released as a single I don't know.

I love that song, especially the strings at the end, and Peter Wolf goes into a falsetto. And if I'm not mistaken, that album also has a dynamite song called "Flamethrower" with Luther Vandross in the background. Why that band fired Wolf mystifies me....the album they released without him flopped HARD ("You're Gettin' Even While I'm Gettin Odd")

    Yup, same album.

"Flamethrower" (Geils). "Young Americans" (Bowie). "Le Freak" (Chic). "My Knight in Black Leather" (Bette Midler). Luther had an amazing resume.

Okay, now I'm getting all excited thinking about early 80's dance songs by Geils and ZZ Top and Talking Heads. Gotta go look for a more appropriate thread for expanding on the joys of a "rock" group going hard-core dance.
