Some Favorite Movies

I know we did this before but we've got new members and I like this topic. In no particular order of favorites, here are some of mine.

The Ten Commandments - Yes, this atheist appreciates the over the top theatrics. I really got into Yul Bryner's "so let it be written, so let it be done."

The Matrix - Agent Smith is sooo cool. I also like Carrie Ann-Moss' tight black outfit and her fight sequence. Oh, my current signature is from that movie.

Star Wars(Entire Series) - I like Jar-Jar

007, Bond movies - I especially prefer Sean Connery and names like pussy galore

Against All Odds - Can't get enough Rachel Ward.

She's Gotta Have it - Can't get enough Tracy Camilla Johns

House Party - good music and just downright funny.

My favourite film is probably Capricorn 1.
I've always had a soft spot for The Jungle Book. When I took my daughter to see it, when she was about 7 years old, the parents enjoyed the film more than the kids, especially the 'I Wanna be Like You' sequence.
Otherwise I normally go for comedies, 'The Producers' being a fave.

I never understood the "power" of the Matrix....a few years ago when this movie came out on Video, one of my friends had a light dinner party and they said they were going to have continuous airings of this movie on their big screen....interestingly, the hosts ended up the only ones watching it...i tried to sit through it and found myself counting the crumbs on the carpet...I tried another time and got bored and I felt like I was on an LSD trip or something.....

what gives with this movie? is it a hetero type of movie or am i way off base....(sorry, to all you homos who may have loved it....!)

PS. We all ended up in another's apartment watching "The Opposite Sex."

Roman the son of Francis Coppola has his superb 2001 film CQ out now on dvd - get it presto! GQ is about a nouvelle vague filmmaker in 1969 who takes over the troubled production of a low budget space adventure film in Paris and gradually gets sucked into a hallucinatory world of mario bavaesque colours, vixens in sleek catsuits and dangerous sportscars. The photography, the music and the set designs are wonderful. Who wants Sweet Home Alabamas and boring old Tuxedos when one can watch female assassins in hotpants, outlandish costumes, nudity, stylized ultraviolence, fast cars and mindblowing plot turns? Okay, Asia Argento was fine in xXx but there's so much more from where she originally came from.

Hey Danceman. I haven't done a gay/straight survey so I'm not sure if the reactions to "The Matrix" relates in those terms. I do know a few straights who just didn't get it.
As for me, I love just about everything in that movie.

"South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut" and "Chasing Amy".

As for the Matrix, I enjoyed it... I thought it was a lot better than the usual action/sci-fi flicks...

SNF: I was at The NY Premier and I copied Travolta's "You Should Be Dancing" solo, did it in a contest and came in first...so it will always have the top spot in my heart..like others have said in here, this movie isn't necessarily all about disco and it is true....it reached the young, common man/woman who was struggling to make it and yet find an enviable place in their social position at that young age....I was exactly Travolta's age when the movie was released, lived in New York City and dreamed of disco stardom like he did and lots of what he went through, so did I - except the Annette and Stephanie connection - that is where the similarities ended. :lol:

The rest of my list contains mostly great dancers, actors/actresses, dialogue and a Big Scary Ship.

I couldn't get into "Chasing Amy". I found the crude language/humor got on my nerves after a while.

It's just about the only film that pushed all my buttons I guess. Perhaps I have a sneaking suspicion that no one has been to the moon. Who knows? I just liked it and remember it (something I don't do with many films).

Hey Nano,
Citizen Kane was one of those movies that didn't live up to the hype for me. Not that it was bad but it's never something I would watch as frequently as oh...Die Hard. By the way, "Die Hard" and "Sidewalk Stories" are movies I'm adding to my list.

Don't worry Paul... "Apocalypse Now" is not my favorite weekend movie either. But it's great, even it I can't stand it sometimes.
Same for "Citizen Kane"... this one dragged out the movie critic in me, I guess.

Oh, I guess I'm also one of the few people that really liked "Swept Away", the 1974 original. At least that's the impression I got after reading the review of the current Madonna version. The review is located below.
