Anyone know whatever happened to Debra Dejean? She had a self-titled 1981 album on Handshake Records (FW37630) in the US. "Goosebumps" and "Are You Lovin' Somebody" were two hot club cuts from the album, both released on 12" singles.

No clue whatever happened to her, but I will definitely remember one saturday night she performed "Are you loving somebody" at the Limelight club (Montreal), she was likely so stoned, one of her nips poped out, she actually didn't realize quickly. Was a "good" show anyways.

That's what I remember somebody else saying a long time ago--that she was sooo loaded when she was performing in NYC (I think) that she almost fell off the stage...or something to that effect.

Debra was a secretary at some record company (Casablanca???) before she got her one BIG break...and then disappeared.

I like most of her LP...I taped it for some guy on Napster who was curious to hear it--and he said her cover songs were "hideously awful"--BUT I liked them. Horrible art direction on the photos though, she's sitting on yards of aluminum foil--looks tres tacky. And, her makeup job is pretty bad---red streaks on her cheeks--sorta like when the Village People went "New Romance" on that "Renaissance" LP!!!! Hey, maybe she & they weren't really ready for the '80's, after all.

Marky, remember when KC & The Sunshine Band did "Let's go rock and roll" in 1980? God, that was awful!!!
About the nipple incident, I saw the same thing happen to Grace Jones in a promo appearance on TV in Argentina. And she was soooo crazy!

I remember her vaguely and I should have better recollection as I had a brief, albeit profittable promo career at Handshake Records in late 1981 working SNEAKER - "More Than Just The Two Of Us," remember those L.A. guys? Very AIR SUPPLY and kinda cute...but I digress....

Debra was not from Casablanca but Midsong (thanks for the wake-up about her background, Marky) as that was the label that promo gal, Margie Joseph, originally came from and she brought a few signees with her after Midsong peetered out. I think there was some kind of 'scandal' concerning DD, but it was more like her having a hissy fit over some DJ not wanting to play her record or cutting her performance short...and the label got mad, she may have gotten a few nips in there, too - who knows? Don't ever recall her falling down or off a stage, but then again, I am getting up there in years.

Whatever happened to her? ????? I think she was lucky to have had the success that she had....she should count her blessings....

    Re: Debra DeJean

Hi all... I was the guitarist on DeJean's LP and part of the live band for a couple of years that followed. All of this happened in Memphis. At least when I was working with her, she was frankly a near-teetotaler ... maybe the occasional glass of wine. Definitely not controlled substances...if anything she was a health nut long before it became fashionable. I don't recall ever hearing of any "wardrobe malfunctions" though that's certainly possible. As far as I know, she is still living somewhere near NYC, and still married to someone from that area, possibly in Jersey. I last saw her here in Memphis in the early 90's where she returned for a couple of "reunion" shows, though frankly we were in a Holiday Inn bar and the show could be described as "underwhelming."
