Since the summer I have been in touch by e-mail with disco/HINRG diva Carol Jiani. She is currently resident here in the UK and is very busy at the moment promoting the 2006 remixes of her classic club smash "Hit n Run Lover".. I am going to ask Carol if she could possibly find the time to come onto the forum to answer some questions..
Will keep you posted on developments.

Hello all !
** update **
Had an e-mail from Carol this evening.. she is more than happy to join us for a quick chat/discussion. She is gonna get back to me with some dates !
Will keep you all posted :D
Cool!
My favourite tracks by her (Hit 'n' run aside)
1.Touch and go lover (Pettibone mix)
2. People dancing in the rain.:D
'Hit N' Run Lover' in it's original version is one of the defining Disco/ Hi NRG records for me...what a stormer and one of those that kept me dancing for years. Still stirs me to this day. Driving power without too much pace, great song and wonderful soulful Diva vocals from Carol.
Along with the classics like Loletta Holloways tracks on Salsoul and Goldmind, Barabara Penningtons '24 Hours A Day' , Jean Carns 'Was That All It Was' and The Two Tons 'Got The Feeling' it just about sums up what is utterly fantastic about a Disco record with a great soulful female vocal over a storming dance beat. :icon_mrgreen:
Doesn't anyone like Mercy. I think that song is a killer. And it was played in every aerobics and dance class.
I do like (a lot) Hit-N-Run Lover. But I never cared for the MDR version. It's like they were trying to imitate Patrick Cowley. But badly.
Are the 2006 mixes out?
Hit & Run Lover is one of my favourite records of all-time but i can't say I've liked anything by her since.:???: I s'pose her version of 'Ask Me' from '82 was OK but nothing special IMO.
...ya gotta beat the street......
Needle,
Good observation on the MDR version sounding like a bad Cowley imitation since "MDR" stands for Moby Dick Remix, which is the record label out of San Francisco it stands to make sense.
There are two other versions:
1. The Canadian 12 inch on Matra, which begins with the cowbells in the intro and is the best version by far. The flip has the MDR version.
2. The original version, which sounds very muffled and is available on a Moby Dick gold label 12 inch. The flip on this also has the MDR version.

The 2006 remixes are currently available on Import from Germany. You can buy it on amazon/ebay etc... Some interesting/modern remixes for todays dancefloors.
Can't wait to have Carol on here! :-)
I also have a 12 inch release of Hit 'N Run Lover on Ariola Records. It is the original version (8:10 w/ cowbells). Flipside is All The People Of The World (7:51).
And I also have a 12 inch extended version of Mercy on Moby Dick Records. It chimes in at 8:05, as compared to the lp version at 6:34.![]()
It is the B-side of The Woman In Me (6:34).
And FYI, Pete Bellotte, along with Lavay(?), wrote Mercy.8)
I also have this Ariola 12" the sound quality here is top notch, especially when you compare to the 9:10 MDR version (not the original like they claim) that sounds like if you covered the speakers with a towel or something, awful.
This Ariola Promo 12" is a bit longer than the Matra and was released later (I hardly used this copy), I believe the break in the middle was extended a few bars, I used for years the first original imported issue to reach down here, (still in my bins in storage) it was release on Matra but on a silver label, the quality of this pressing was also top notch, don’t remember if cow bells intro is the same as the Ariola, probably is.
I also didn't care much for the MDR remix, I hated those reverbs, I played it a few times but that's about it.
Next in popularity was “Mercy” released on a Matra 12" (6:34) and "Ask Me" (6:20) was a nice cover of one of my all time favorite songs -originally done by Ecstasy Passion and Pain- that sadly never took off for me, on this 12” you can also find “whisper” which is very good too.
I have always loved this track. The first version that I recall was about 9 mins long and had that great sax sound throughout. The sax was removed from the album version which I always thought was a mistake (although the percussion break was a great addition).
I was recently told that Mercy was a cover, originally done by Judy Cheeks and written by Pete Bellotte and Sylvester Levay (why the album only ever credited Levay is a mystery to me).
I can't wait to hear all about her, she always struck me as larger than life and seeing her perform pregnant and on rollerscates was an experience!

** UPDATE**
Had a response from Carol this morning... She will be happy to join us one day next week for a Q+A session...
Im not sure how we go about organising this ?? Will Carol have to join the website to log on ? Also, bearing in mind the time differences, when would be the best time for her to join us?
Over to you Bernie.....
Can you let me know asap so I can confirm the details with her. She seems very busy at the moment and we dont want to miss this great opportunity.
Im sure we al ahve plenty of questions to ask her about her long career...
Neil.
Energyguy,
Thank you for your efforts to contact Carol and have her speak to her numerous fans.
Going by the last time we did this with Evelyn Thomas, the time zone difference really was a factor in member participation. I feel we should let Carol Jiani know that it would be a 3-4 hour affair where we would allow members to post their questions as much as a day ahead of time and then she could answer them at her leisure throughout the day. I will personally register Carol for an account on the forum and e-mail her the details later today.
I would imagine that "prime time" would be around 2-4 pm New York (EST) time as that would make it only 6 hours ahead in the UK and 3 hours behind on the West coast of the US so most everyone around the world could participate.
Please, if anyone has ideas on how to best do this then post it here. Thanks.

Hi eevryone
fisrtly, thanks to all of you who have posted the questions on the CAROL JIANI : Q&A thread, a good mix of questions..
I e-mailed Carol again yesterday to check if she is still logging on to the site today, I have not heard back from her yet. Hopefully she will still find time to join us.
It was fun having Carol join us today on the board. The best part was she really seemed to enjoy it as much as we did.
Really cool reading all the Carol Jiani posts and having her on here. Shame I was not around to contribute.
I have noticed that Sussed Records here in the Uk who re-issue all the Salsoul stuff have a new CD out-Salsoul Records presents: Disco trance and cosmic flavas and it includes....
Montreal featuring Uchenna Ikejianni-'Higher and higher.
They have it online at Juno Records.
Also thanks again Carol.
