    Marlena Shaw disco tracks

Did Marlena Shaw record any disco tracks other than 'Sweet Seventeen Suite' on her 'Take A Bite' album?

The follow up on 7" and flip side of 'Its Better Than Walking Out' on 12" is the very great string laden 'Love Has Gone Away' and try 'Pictures and Memories' on Columbia for another nice track...not on a 12" as far as I know. Also recorded by The Controllers too.

Her 'Take A Bite' album is still available at UK Amazon for £17.94

    Amazon-U.S. | Amazon-U.K.

On my copy there is a one second pause between each track segment though, so it doesn'y flow as well as the vinyl album. Anyone know why they did this?

Marlena Shaw's 'Love Has Gone Away' is featured on Oct '76's Time Capsule, which has just gone online:

'It's Better Than Walking Out' was included in the June'76 programme.

Marlena did an LP in '82 called 'Let Me In Your Life' on the tiny independent label South Bay. It's obviously not 'disco' as it was after that period but it's still quite dancey in an early 80s 'boogie' style. One side is produced by Johnny Bristol (RIP) & the other side is produced by Webster Lewis who did great things with the Gwen McCrae LP of the same year.(Keep The Fire Burning - brilliant!;-) :D ). It took me ages to find a copy of this LP; don't know if it's rare or not.

For a superb offering of proto disco by Marlena Shaw check out "Woman Of The Ghetto" from her Spice of Life LP.A Great 6 min+ cut that was a massive song in my club back in 1972.:D Also from that album was her classic "California Soul"

Marky will probably remember - we had tons of copies of this album sitting in the storage bins at Aloha Records when it was released and for months thereafter. Poor Marlena! I think the label made some kind of deal with the store's owners.

True, the album isn't the best I've heard but I really like the 'Without You In My Life' track; granted it's not a dance track but very classy & moody. I do like classy & moody now & again you know!:icon_mrgreen: ;-)

Originalbigm, thanks for posting this info here again, it was mentioned before (maybe by you too) but I forgot all about it.
I don't think I've ever heard this cut or LP, but if it was played in a Disco setting am in like flynn 8) , especially during those early days.

it's is now added to my wish list for my next order, Thanks.

Ps: I see there is also an Anthology with this cuts, anyone knows if this are the full original versions in this one??

man, that sucks, :???: are all cd copies like this?? If they are I wont ever bother with this one, even if I find it at a better price.

I checked both sites ASIN #, and they are the same , but the Label is different :???::roll:, maybe one of this copies is gap-less??

    Mix,

The more I think of this, the more I believe the disc may be a bootleg. I couldn't imagine a commercial disc with such a gross error like that.

I would also imagine that you could simply rip the CD and burn it to a CD-R with a gap of 0 seconds so it plays back in a continuous fashion.

It doesn't look like a bootleg. The sleeve credits:

A good solution Bernie, I do this sometimes even to regular gapped Cds, I also do it to add "Tittles" info downloaded from the net , why they don't include this feature in every CD is behond me.

There's a more recent Japanese pressing of "Take A Bite" on CD that doesn't have gaps in the medley.. It's already out of print I think, but if you really want the album on CD, that's the edition to go for..

Amazon-U.S. | Amazon-U.K. | Amazon-Germany | Amazon-France still has it for a whopping $78 US.. Though last time I checked, MUNDO had it much cheaper..

Good to know, this is the version I was going to pick up , but it went OOP right away :icon_neutral: and prices a bit to steep, especially since I own two copies in vinyl. (Difficult to get back in the day)

I was surprised how quickly it went out of print too. Hopefully it won't be long before it's reissued again..

Also, can anyone vouch for Marlena's "Acting Up" (1978, Columbia) LP, if there's any disco on that album.. Judging from the cover, it certainly looks like there could be a little disco on it..
