Yes....I saw it when it aired on WNBC a couple of years ago and I highly agree that it was well worth the viewing time.....Anything Motown is worth a look-see, especially if it is from the 60's to early 70's era when the Company was in full swing.....

Hey guys, when I was doing research for the "Who's dead" topic I remember to have found a website with contents of a lawsuit put by both Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin's families against the producers of the movie (made for TV, if I remember correctly). They said the pic had done a lousy job in depicting the last days of the band, and specially the whereabouts of Ruffin's death. Given that you have seen it, what do you think? Just family pride, or there was reason to do that?

HI NANO,i thought the film was quite accurate from what i know, eddie wasnt portrayed badly at all hes death was only spoken about, david was shown being tossed from a car if it wasnt the exact same street i dont know,if anyone had a right to be upset i think it would have been pauls family as he was shown arguing with his family. my ONLY complaint would be they just skipped over the first 7 single releases and treat her like a lady, rick james/standing at the top wernt even mentioned

    Hi Disco,

I saw the mini-series about THE TEMPTS and I agree with you, it is great. I think THE TEMPTS is THE soul group of all-time. I like the film, even if the movie shows the vision of ONE member of THE TEMPTS over the others. The actor who impersonates David Ruffin is just great (I'm forgetting his name now, shame on me).

    Peace,

The overall film was fairly accurate. There were a couple of nit-picky inaccuracies in the film: 1) When they go to see The Cadillacs in concert, The Cadillacs are doing lots of dancing, splits, etc. The Cadillacs never did anything like that in concert. 2) The story David Ruffin tells about his mother is a complete fabrication, in fact, no one remembers ever hearing anything like that from Ruffin IRL.
The first half of the film, especially the early scenes, portray their lives as some sort of African-American "Happy Days". This was late '50s Detroit, so I'm sure it was nothing like that. The second half is much darker, sadder, and easily the best part of the film (Melvin's offscreen death is SAD, people).
