"Getting Serious" the B side of Strut Your Funky Stuff by Frantique is just as good if not better.
I was wondering if anyone have got 12" singles where they have found the b-side to be just as good or better than the a-side?
Some examples for me:
INSTANT FUNK-Crying (flipside to I Got My Mind Made Up)
VOYAGE-Tahiti, Tahiti (flipside to Souvenirs)
BOYSTOWN GANG-Disco Kicks (remix) (a-side is Can't Take My Eyes Off You)
PHILLY CREAM-Join The Army (flip to Motown Review)
What are your thoughts?

Sad to say, I'm guilty of virtually never playing 'B' sides. The one that really sticks out though has to be Dancin' And Prancin' c/w Jingo by Candido.
I only played Dancin' And Prancin' for the first 3-6 months.
Sure DiscoH....great question...many times I likes the B side or the flipside much better....but none of your choices fall among them, although I did like the flips somewhat...On 2002-09-21 03:28, discohunter wrote:

My standouts I can think of right off the bat are:
Sandy Mercer's "You Are My Love" (A) "Play With Me" (B)........The Players' Association, "Disco Inferno," (A) "Goin' To A Disco," (B).....Foxy's "Get Off," (A) "Tena's Song," (B)..this song by K.I.D. on Sam Records which I cannot pronounce - I liked that song, but the flipside better....and the biggest one of all, Gloria Gaynor's "Substitute," (A) backed with "I Will Survive," (B side - but not for long)!
I Believe In The Boogie, But Lovin\' Is Really My Game.
I always preferred the b-side to Teena Marie's 'Behind The Groove' called 'You're All The Boogie I Need'.
...ya gotta beat the street......
two things....sorry for my grammar on my post above (likes instead of liked)....I refuse to come on here and proofread except when it comes to the name of the songs...so you get what you get....
secondly....Behind The Groove and You're All the Boogie I Need....two of the best songs released in 1980 and the B-side shoulda been equally a hit....quickened pace but a crowd pleaser, to be sure....
I Believe In The Boogie, But Lovin\' Is Really My Game.
Just thought of a couple more:
BARRY WHITE: It's Only Love Doing It's Thing (flip to Your Sweetness...)
MUSIQUE: In The Bush (flip to Keep On Jumpin')
ANDREA TRUE CONNECTION: Fill Me Up (Heart To Heart) (flipside to both NY, You Got Me Dancing and What's Your Name, What's Your Number)

On a rock vein:
THE POLICE - "Friends" (flipside to "Don't stand so close to me") was almost better than the A-side (but an Andy Summers song could never beat Sting for the A-side, right?)![]()
Of course lotsa instrumental 'B' sides were played in preference to the vocal 'A' side.
Dreaming A Dream - Crown Heights Affair (infinitely better than the vocal)
You're The One For Me - D Train (until the Paul Hardcastle '84 remix)
Times Are Tight - Jimmy Young (the vocals just got in the way)
Delerium - Francine McGee ( an instrumental that had a different title too?)
Tee's Happy - Northend ( another instrumental with a different title to the 'A' side)
There's lots more I can't think of right now.
Anyone else?
I preferred the instrumental of Cafe by DD Sound over the vocal....I preferred Donna Summer's "The Deep" vocal over the instrumental by John Barry...El Bimbo by The Bimbo Jets instrumental was preferable to the vocal side...and while I really loved, Stevie Wonder's "Do I Do," the instrumental heightened and brightened every little orchestral nuance that gets overshadowed by his superb vocal. On 2002-09-22 11:41, QUINNY wrote:

On my Canadian 7", the instrumental *is* the A-side, with the vocal on the flip.On 2002-09-22 12:12, DanceMan wrote:

On the US 7" on Scepter, the Tom Moulton remix is on the B-side... which is the best of all three versions
Personally, I always listen to b-sides. Even if it's just an instrumental, sometimes it's a different mix (like Kleeer's "Keeep Your Body Workin'"). Some of my favourite songs are b-sides, as this is one of the few areas where most artists were allowed to freely express themselves.
Pet Shop Boys are practically notorious for putting their best material only on b-sides.
Lately ive been listening to AMANT
i consider much more
this b- side HAZY SHADES OF LOVE instead of IF THERES LOVE...........RU
**Dreamin\' about those disco lights**
Many cheesy eurodisco oddities and one hit wonders had surprisingly hardhitting b-sides that are now being discovered by hiphop, groove and boogie djs. Weyman Corporation had a continental hit with "Le Chat / La Chatte A La Voisine" (covered by Chocolat's in one of their medleys)in 1975. The b-side has an afro-influenced "Cumbayero", a mating of Soul Makossa and Jungle Fever - truly powerful stuff. Same goes for Siracusa's "Try My Love" from 76 (which got re-realesed in 77 credited to Phil Try on TK 12")- flip "Streap-Tease (sic) in the Stars" has a nasty grinding jazzy groove quite different from the breezy a-side. Jackie Robinson is loved for her "Moving Like A Superstar" by the likes of me but younger mates dig her "Pussyfooter" that I don't think got a single spin back when the record was realesed. "Pussyfooter" is commanding high prices these days as a break fave.
I have the US 12" of Instant Funk and the sticker on the sleevem states that Crying is on the b side but there is a 7 min edited version of "I GOt My Mind...". If it counts, I have always preferred this version which is just a slight edit of the A side. It look s like it was a propmo copy that had the Promo statement "blacked" out in red ink.On 2002-09-21 03:28, discohunter wrote:

Graham, have you got 'Alternative' by PSBs as this is a double CD of purely b-sides. I always say that this is my favourite PSBs CD- they really are more interesting on their b-sides it has to be said. Tracks like 'Hey Headmaster' & 'Jack The Lad' are so good IMO.
...ya gotta beat the street......
But of course!
Even though I'd already collected most of the singles, I was thrilled when "Alternative" came out. Needless to say, I got the deluxe edition. It was a great day when "Jack The Lad" finally became available on CD.
"Shameless" should've been an a-side too. Brilliant OTT track, better than "It's A Sin" IMO.

Does the cover morph between Chris & Neil when u hold it at different angles?

Yup, that's the one... also has a nice thick booklet with a very in-depth interview, discussing each track on the album. The actual music is the same as the regular release though.
I have a feeling that version will become a real collectors item.

Anybody like Raphael Cameron's "Boogie's Gonna Get You" - the instrumental B side? A nice early morning sleeper hit at Troc!
Oh, Rafael Cameron ! I'd like to know the name of the girl who sing 'Together' (6:45) with Rafael Cameron. Have you any information ???
I prefer the b-side of the 'Saturday Night Band's album (1978), it has just 'Come on Dance, Dance' (12:48) but 'Touch me on my Hot Spot' (13:36) on the a-side delights me so !
Concerning PSB's collection of B-Sides (Alternative), I also agree that it is one of the best PSB albums ever.
Songs like JACK THE LAD, NEW LIFE, A MAN COULD GET ARRESTED, YOUR FUNNY UNCLE, YOU KNOW WHERE YOU WENT WRONG are better than normal album tracks.
Nevertheless, in the booklet Neil Tennant refers to the b-side song WAS THAT WHAT IT WAS? as one of the lesser PSB songs ever.
It is funny the difference between peoples' musical tastes... for me WAS THAT WHAT IT WAS? is one of the best PSB's songs ever...
My favorite B side has always been Chic's "Sao Paolo", the flip side to "Dance, Dance, Dance" (which always sounded like a poor Jurgen S. Korduletsch rip-off to me).
