One or two people have said that Unidisc Cds can quite often leave a lot to be desired when it comes to sound quality and production values.
I'm interested in purchasing some of the Star Funk CDs (over 40 volumes in total, mostly? 12" versions) and wondered if any of the posters here have any experience of them.
    Are they good or bad?

I just listened to one last night. I listened to "Fantastic Voyage" and "I've Just Begun To Love You" and they sounded okay to me.

Haven't heard any of these, but the Star Funk CDs are at the address below. If anyone can provide more comments on them-please do.

If anyone is looking for Solar Records material like Dynasty, Shalamar, Whispers, Carrie Lucas... then I can definitely recommend "Solar Disco Classics" double CD out of the UK. Complete tracklisting at:

I bought a few volumes. I thought they were tolerable in sound quality.

    Hi,

I order Star Funk volume 1-6 from the ZXY internet site a few months ago. The sound quality for most tracks is oke. You will find a overview of all the volume's here:
    http://www.unidisc.com/show-me/starfunk.html
If I'm correct some volume's are out of print...

Speaking of a high quality series you have to check these:
    http://www.arcade.nl/compilations/Da...nceclassic.htm
If you buy the cd's keep in mind that there is a TMF logo on the cd. If so then you have the reissued remastered series released somewhere in 2000. If not you have the old series from ~1988.

The 3x cd from the 'Classics from the 80's' have undoubted the most impressive sound quality I've ever heard so far. How they did this I don't know. Using a headphone you hear sometimes a click so I assume they used the vinyl records. Hearing the bass on Captain Rapp - Bad Times, Bootsy's Rubber Band-Body Slam, Roundtree-Hit On You, Teena Marie-Square Biz is unbelievable. The 3x cd's are published by Rhythm Records, Holland.

Also very good series are, Best Of 12inch Gold (vol.1-21), Deepbeats (vol.1-17), MasterCuts (vol.1-40) and StreetSounds Anthems (vol.1-7). All tracks are in full extended versions where DeepBeats put mostly the remixed and rare versions on it. (example: Rockers Revenge-Walking On Sunshine-Shep Pettibonemastermix and Postive Force-We Got The Funk-U.S Remix)

    Greetings,

    Cees

    I'm confused!!

I have volume 1,2 and 3 of the Dance Classics CD's and apart from similar covers the track listings are totally different compared with mine.

Cees: I, probably along with everyone else who's read this thread, would love to know the correct titles of the other series (ALL GOLD 12", MASTERCUTS, DEEPBEATS, FROM THE 80's etc) you mentioned. I've tried google without any success.

Haven't heard them, but all the Deep Beat CDs are here:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/.../discomusiccom

    http://gemm.com/q.cgi?rb=DISCOMUSIC&wild=deep+beats

Best of 12" Gold are here, but appear to be discontinued:

    Or you can try searching at;

    Hi,

Delboy: check if you have a TMF logo on the backcover of the cd. (see the url at the end of my message)If so you have the reissued series and these are digitally remastered. The site has some problems with viewing the correct track listing I see. So here what is on the volumes 1,2 and 3 (the reissued versions)

volume1: Johnny Guitar Watson-A Real Mother For Yu, Boz Scaggs-Lowdown, Brothers Johnson-Strawberry Letter 123, Stretch-Why Did You Do It, George McCrae-Rock Your Baby Jesse Green-Nice And Slow, Wild Cherry-Play That Funky Music (so very good), Lou Rowls-See You When I Get There, Harold Melvin...-Don't Leave Me This Way, Isaac Hayes-Theme From Shaft, Archie Bell...-Tighten Up, Sam&Dave-Soulman, Candi Station-you Hearts Run Free, KC&The Sunshine Band-That's The Way I Like It.
volume2: James Brown-Sex Machine, People Choice-Do It Anyay You Wanna, Earth Wind&Fire- Saturday Love, Emotions-Best Of My Love, Sister Sledge-Lost In Music, Shalamar-The Second Time Around, Donna Summer-I Feel Love, Barry White-Let The Music Play, The Real Thing-You To Me Are Everything, Bill Withers-Lovely Day, O'Jays-Back Stabbers (also very good), Labelle-Lady Marmalade, The Temptations-Papa Was A Rollin' Stone, Philadelphia International...-Let's Clean Up The Ghetto.
volume3: Dan Hartman-Relight My Fire, Gwen Mcrae-Keep The Fire Buring, Lipps Inc.-Funkytown, Lakeside-Fantastic Voyage, Level 42-Love Games, Paul Kelly-Get Sexy, Karen Young-Hot Shot, Foxy-Get Off, Chic-Le Freak, The Four Tops-Don't Walk Away, Gino Soccio-Try It Out, Stephanie Mills-Never Knew Love Like..., Moments&Whatnauts-Girls, Betty Wright-Tonight Is The Night.

Above are all in extended long versions...

Quincy: I think that only the Mastercuts series is still available. Check the Beechwood site:
    http://www.beechwoodmusic.net/

The series u ask are all published in the Uk. For me it where very hard to find them, some I bought second-hand. I know that there are more volumes available for Best Of 12inch and Deepbeats. The values I gave are related to the volumes I have of each series.
The Best Of 12inch series published by Old Gold Records Ltd England and released in the year 1988. Actually it is a best-of-serie of the original vinyl series. I own also two recordsets with the same title from the same company. But the tracks are not on one of the cd's. So there must be more volume's available.
The Deepbeats series published by Castle Communications, Londen in the year ~1995. I know that there are more volumes in the series because I where so stupid not to buy the Best of Shannon volume. Never seen it after that. There are tracks on that volume that I have on vinyl but never seen on cd in the extended versions.
The StreetSound Anthems series. It is the first series I bought and it is published by Dance Music, London in the year ~1987. The same as for Deepbeats and Best Of 12inch very hard to find because they are out of print for many years.
Classics From The 80's published by Rhythm Records, Holland in the year ~1997. Actually the tracks are mixed by DJ Mike (for me a unknown DJ) but so very good. On the albums are tracks that I've never seen before on cd, to note some: Tyrone Brunson-The Smurf, Loveclub-Hot Summernight, Captain Rapp-Bad Times, Chocolate Milk-Who's Getting It Now, Nocera-Summertime Summertime, Bootsy Rubber Band-Body Slam, Double Vision-Clock On The Wall (old memories when hearing this song), Roundtree-Hit On You, Luther Vandross-She's A Superlady, Starpoint-Bring Your Sweet Lovin Back, Krystol-After The Dance Is Through, The Controllers-Stay, Mtume-Juicy Fruit (so very good), Kleeer-Intimate Connection, Vesta Williams-Once Bitten Too Shy, Total Contrast-Hit and Run, Dayton-The Sound Of Music, Tramaine-Fall Down...
Aldo the tracks are mixed they are all in the long extended version and about 5min or more to hear.

I put a frontcover of each serie on the url below. Hope it will help to find some of the cd's. There are more compilation cd's, take a look. I put a piece of the Classics From The 80's, this is dance music.......
