Jussik,
Sometimes I listen to Lightning/Disco Symphony and I think it's very good !!!
Finally, someone does justice to one of the best Munich stompers, ”Pretty Maid” by the Pretty Maid Company. An exceptionally competent Canadian re-edit clocking 4.58 extends the forcefully hammered but all too brief intro groove, elongates the violin passages, and allows for more of the ludicrously catchy hooks. This version sounds pretty great and one hopes there’ll be more from the maker of this mini-masterpiece.
Other grooves & moves:
GEDIDA and HALIM, two world music cds of the impeccable Natascha Atlas.
TAAL, a tabladriven Bollywood soundtrack cd. I have not seen the film but judging from the sounds it’s a spectacular caleidoscope of colours, dizzy dance sequences and sweeping epic drama.
Disco:
LIGHTNING – a 1979 Casablanca realese I never heard before, with 5 classy, Ray Martinez-styled smooth disco tracks with a full orchestra fronted by a male vocalist. The neon imagery on the sleeve is one of the most Disco ever printed, with two girls dressed in glitter and sequins speeding along on quad skates.
Patrick Norman: SWEET SWEET LADY – nice listening disco album from Canada
Trini Lopez: TRANSFORMED BY TIME – who actually bought this lp apart from the likes of us? Trini’s trad fans must have taken one look at the lp and noticed it’s all standards apparently updated. Did the uncles, aunts and other 30-somethings of 1978 really want their fabourites discofied? However, this is fun stuff well produced
by Meco.
SalDisco Orchestra: UN LARGO WEEKEND – amazingly sung latin disco
Harlow: ROAD TO MANDOLAY – the perfect companion to Tantra’s Hills of Katmandu
Su Kramer: YOU’VE GOT THE POWER – an early Munich hitette
Performance: DYNAMITE DRAGSTER – frantic Bellotte-produced Munich synth burbler
Kikrokos: JUNGLE DJ – Jim Burgess mix – better sound than in the original plus additional effects but somehow less charming than the album
Claudja Barry: DISCO MIXES, a Lollipop lp from 1980, with 6 remixes. The 8 minute SWEET DYNAMITE and Moulton’s JOHNNY... stand out.
Powerplay: DO IT ALL NIGHT – great slippery Munich strings for 10 minutes
Siren: MORNING MUSIC – John Davis, very Monster Orchestra
Ozila: Ozila 2001 – This must be big on The Disco spaceship, along with the Araxis tracks
Disco Circus: PLASTIC PARADISE, fast zipping proto-hi-nrg from 1980
Hot Blood: DISCO DRACULA lp, with BLACKMAIL
Jussik,

Just sold a LIGHTNING copy on discogs for 59€ and think i did a mistake. It was copy 29 out of 100 i believe. I still own two other copies. Any idea if really only 100 were printed?
Other than that i share your view on the other records. Found the Disco Circus Plastic Paradise to be a little disappointing next to their brilliant first LP which because of Gadda Da Vida and Soul Sister always, ALWAYS murders the dancefloor. After Gadda Da... i spin HOT R S "Temptation" and they kiss your feet :icon_mrgreen:

- Can't have been, must have been a lot more since I've come across several copies this year alone in different countries, including 2 here in Finland. How many more there are to be found in other cities far bigger?
Temptation - a WICKED track!
I saw one in a New York store going for $5 a few weeks ago.
The rarity of the Lightning album has been vastly overstated. Much of this stems from an interview with Eric Carr who claimed that "only six" copies were pressed, which sent die-hard KISS collectors on a frenzy to find it.
It's quite possible that only a hundred or so copies were sold, but there are heaps more promo copies floating around. Casablanca was big on DJ/club promotion, so this is where they are at. There are at least two label variations, which would indicate that at least two batches were pressed or that it was made at more than one pressing plant.
ok, that makes sense, why would i have 3 otherwise? I cant be such a lucky bastard. But still: two copies i had/have number prints on it. Like one has promotional copy 27, the other 88 printed on it... And the other has no number at all. I guess they distributed counted 100 at first and later pressed more. Well, anyways - the record is nice, but the cover art is the true winner (: and dude, i love disco girls having space fun on sleeves. Guess thats why i spent much more time digging out LPs and not sooo many 12" in the past. The artwork really was one of the things that got me hooked. I remember finding all these Big Production artworks when i started, you know what i'm talking about, those sexy cheesy cerrone Lps, costandinos, munich machine, battlestar galactica, meco, gaz... Then u find out that sometimes the worst cover artworks host the best music, think of Kikrokos jungle, black devil... And now you can find yourself (...) spending all the money on records that look ugly as hack and all of this just because the Music (;
found my promotional copy at 5 $... rarity must be a myth... to help some sellers :icon_evil: growing prices...
