Thank you Jussi for the feedback on the previous EL COCO message. I will list everything I compiled with Bruce Barlett concerning EL COCO discography.

    LPs:

    1974 MONDO DISCO

    1975 BRAZIL (CARAVAN)

    1976 LET'S GET IT TOGETHER

    1977 COCOMOTION

    1978 DANCING IN PARADISE

    1980 REVOLUCION

    1982 EL COCO

    Answering your question Jussi:

I think no album was released in 1979. So, the EP with the COCOMOTION 79 remake and the 12" LOVE EXCITER/DANCE MAN are all non-album tracks, but due to their lenght could even be called "albums" and not 12".

The final EL COCO LP (the nameless EL COCO album from 1982) is the one which has the track SHAKE IT DOWN, which was included on the MCA CD compilation EL COCO GREATEST DISCO HITS.

    12" SINGLES:

    from 1974 MONDO DISCO:

    1 MONDO DISCO / BAHIA

    2 YACKETY YAK / HEARTBEAT

    from 1975 BRAZIL (CARAVAN):

    3 UNDER CONSTRUCTION / CARAVAN

from 1976 LET'S GET IT TOGETHER:

4 JUST BE YOU / PUT ON YOUR JEANS

5 LET'S GET IT TOGETHER / DO THE CAT

    from 1977 COCOMOTION:

6 I'M MAD AS HELL / LOVE VACCINE

    from 1978 DANCING IN PARADISE:

7 DANCING IN PARADISE / LOVE IN YOUR LIFE

    (unfortunately all album versions)

8 COCO KANE /IT'S YOUR LAST CHANCE (12"mix)

from 1979 - non album tracks:

9 LOVE EXCITER / DANCE MAN

    (not included on any albums,

    as far as I know)

    10 COCOMOTION 79 remake /

AFRODESIA + COCO KANE (other mix)

    11 LET'S GET IT TOGETHER 1980 REMIX/

    COCOMOTION 79

As you wrote Jussi, there is also an EL COCO track masquerade as a SWEET POTATO PIE track called HOT DISCO NIGHT (ARE YOU READY?) on the album of the same name. This track is DELICADO from second album BRAZIL.

Now, can anyone add anything to this list?? All information and new items are welcomed. All corrections are really really welcomed.

Thank you Jussi, Bernie, Bruce and all in this wonderful board.

I've never heard that Cocomotion 79 remake, how does it differ from the '77 original? Is it a remix or an actual remake? My printing of LOVE EXCITER is a regular 12", around 8 mins long. Is there an even longer version available?

I keep hearing that DELICADO / HOT DISCO NIGHT track being sampled in hiphop/breakbeat/d&b cuts. I go up to the deejays and ask if they know what it is and happily they all do! ..it's immortal.

    Hello Jussi:

I'm sorry. I did not express myself clearly. When I said "due to their lenght, they could even be called albums, not 12", I meant in fact ony the COCOMOTION 79 and not really LOVE EXCITER (9:05) / DANCE MAN (6:15). This 12" has the only versions of those 2 songs I know. I don't think there is an album in 1979, because I never heard of anything in all these years, and even Laurin Rinder on his interview on this site didn't mention any.

The COCOMOTION 79 is a different story. It is in fact a 12" and it is a REMIX of the original 1977 track but with some added instruments (an others subtracted). It sounds a bit different from the original, and it is very good but I still prefer the previous version. The B-Side brings 2 cuts from DANCING IN PARADISE LP which are AFRODESIA coupled with COCO KANE in a sequence the makes it sound like it was only one song (both songs are radically transformed if compared to the originals). In my opinion those 2 got better than the album versions.

Considering that COCO albums are not long, considering that no album was released in 1979, considering that the A-Side of COCOMOTION 79 has the same lengh as the original LP (minus one track, considering that the B-Side is 16 minutes long and is as long as DANCING IN PARADISE LP (minus one track), I thought that it could be considered an album, not a 12".

In fact I sugested to Bruce Bartlett to create a "missing" 1979 EL COCO album with the non album tracks:

    1 LOVE EXCITER

    2 DANCE MAN

    3 COCOMOTION 79

    4 AFRODESIA + COCO KANE

    5 COCO KANE (12" remix)

    6 LET'S GET IT TOGHETHER (1980 remix)

Thank you Jussi for all your replies, please if you have any more information on EL COCO, keep me updated. I loved to know that the DJs you've mentioned knew about them. What track is that? Where can I find it??

    Bye

Paolo - about the El Coco samples in recent recordings - one such is a bizarrely titled GRANDMA'A ROCKING CHAIR that is based on the rhythm of the Delicado track and some 60's jazz instrumentals. I have no idea who the artist is but next time I bump into the guy who spinned it I'll ask him and let you know.

    DISCO

The word evokes not just a type of music or a kind of dance or even a style of dress.It\'s also a new social order of black and white, gay and straight, rich and poor, all hot, sweaty and, most likely, high, together.

Although disco-funk.com is a great site, it's not 100% accurate. I have come across numerous errors and omissions. I've been meaning to e-mail Phil for ages but haven't got around to it.

    Hello:

I didn't know that page (disco-funk). I visited it yeaterday... It is very good and informative...

I have seen the DANCE MAN LP listed in EL Coco page. It was the first and only time I've seen this. It has to be confirmed, since Bruce says the site isn't 100% accurate.

Anyway, the home page says all discographies are being updated
