Yes! Please do let me know if you're able to make a visit Sandy! It's always a great joy to meet the discomusic.com gang at the RtP events.
As for the date of the events, we've been having them on the Sunday of the Columbus Day weekend because several business observe the Monday as a holiday. As I previously mentioned, this year the holiday weekend coincides with the Castro Street Fair! So, it's just like back in San Francisco's (please don't call it Frisco! :icon_lol:) disco heyday, a Castro Street Sunday Teadance at the Trocadero! How appropriate for the 30th anniversary!!
People have asked why we don't have the parties on Saturday evenings? We wish we could but the club already has regular gigs happening on Saturdays. The costs to rent the club on a Saturday is considerably more expensive, which would drive ticket prices higher and would lessen the amount we're able to contribute to the "Under One Roof" charity.
You know Sandy, one of my worries with each RtP event is whether I'll have the energy to last through the evenings. It's amazing how the combination of the music, people and lights just recharges me and keeps me going. Something about the sheer joy of being able to hear/experience this era of music the way it should be heard! All of us working on the parties feel the same way, and we're at the club hours before everybody else is to set up. I hope, if you're able to make it to SF, you (and everybody else who can attend) find yourself so caught up in the music that at 4 am you'll be wondering where the night went! :icon_biggrin:
Since the 30th Anniversary Party of the Trocadero Transfer is approaching very quickly, the www.remembertheparty.com website has just been delightfully revamped! TONS of new pictures and memorabilia from the era of Trocadero's heyday have been added. I found a great Billboard article from 1978 talking about San Francisco's disco scene. You'll find that article in section on "The Trocadero Transfer." Plus photos of Sylvester, Viola Wills, Paul Parker, Two Tons of Fun and much more!!
I also added four more short video clips to YouTube from Remember the Party 5 for those of you wanting some visuals to go with the CD set! Here are the links:

Stroll down memory lane with us! :icon_biggrin:
Hey Sandy, I forgot to mention that I met up with Jerry Bonham and our RtP producers, Chris and Richard, over the weekend for dinner. They complimented you on being one of the few to have caught the naughty "string of pearls" reference in their early ad for the 30th anniversary. Of course, being sweet and innocent (cough, cough!), I even missed it! :icon_lol:
Okay, now that Sandy has informed us he will be taking a long journey to get to the party, what about you guys that live much closer? Hey Marky, Remicks, Nrg, Skinflint, and the rest of you in California, especially Northern California, any chance of meeting you there too??? :icon_question::icon_question::icon_question:
I don't live in California.
Oops! Sorry about that NRG. I mistakenly thought you were still in the Bay Area. :icon_redface:
As I mentioned in the thread about the fun Sylvester video on YouTube (that we all think was filmed at the Trocadero), some fun new stuff just added to the www.remembertheparty.com website to get everybody prepared for the Troc's 30th Anniversary party! Besides the cool section on the Fabulous Sylvester, new photos on the first four pages of the Trocadero Memorabilia section. Some nice clear photos of the mirror ball cluster which you can compare with the glimpse bottom half of the cluster in the Sylvester video. It really does look like the same cluster!!!
There's also a section "Cocktails Of The City" with some photos of San Francisco from the Trocadero era. We hope people will be encouraged to submit more photos to add to the section!
Finally, the addition I absolutely love, "Your Troc Memories!" Two glorious and well written essays about Trocadero - one from Beaner, who worked the bar at Troc, and one from Bobby M., part of the team who work the arc lamps at the RtP events. It's so much fun to read the lasting impressions the Trocadero left on all of us. Maybe Marky, Remicks, NRG, Dvdjamm, Old Skinflint, and all of you former Trocladytes will one day add your Troc memories??? :icon_biggrin:
Later this afternoon (Wednesday, October 3, 2007) at 6:00 pm Pacific Time, Jerry Bonham and one of our primary RtP producers, Chris, will be interviewed on Strictly Confidential Radio. They'll be talking about the RtP events, the Trocadero Transfer and, of course, DISCO! :icon_biggrin:
To listen to them live, please go to the following:
http://headonradionetwork.com/streaming.php
Then on Saturday, October 6, 2007, on KALX Radio 90.7 FM, based in Berkeley, California, between 3 to 5:30pm, Chris and Jerry will be live in their studio with DJ Sergio. Jerry will also be presenting some of his favorite disco tracks!
I wonder if Jerry will give us any clues as to the songs he'll be playing at
Sunday night's big party??? :icon_question::icon_question::icon_question:
"tick tock goes the clock, everyone's at the Troc...
:icon_biggrin:
Slightly off topic but related, I went to the Troc in 83 and had a great time there, but if I may ask, when did the club close down and was there any specific reason it closed down? I live in Vancouver Canada so not privvy to any info like this.
OMG, OMG, OMG!!! I just received news that the City of San Francisco is giving us a Proclamation signed by the Mayor declaring Sunday, October 7, 2007, "Remember the Party" Day!!! Never in our wildest dreams did we ever think something like this would happen. :icon_biggrin::icon_biggrin::icon_biggrin: What's even more amazing is that our first event in April, 2004 was suppose to be the one and only RtP. Disco is meant to live on!!!
Oh, and Bob, Trocadero never really closed - it just changed ownership and name. It's now known as the Glas Kat Club and, of course, the interior is pretty different. However, the owner is quite proud that he's helping us keep the spirit of the Troc alive!!
Tonight's the big night...and i'm going to miss it yet again...I have no energy now...I did go to the Castro Street Fair for awhile so that was fun..I can't wait to hear what happened and to see the playlist and clips on youtube....who knows? With the popularity that continues with the Remember The Party nights....maybe it could be a monthly party...just a thought...HAVE FUN!!!

Just found this thread, and I am hoping to make it to SFO for RtP 2009! I presume it is always Columbus day weekend? Not the most convenient, but I'll try to be there!
Do you have to get tickets in advance? I would imagine it would fill up to capacity pretty darn quick...
Has anybody seen or heard from Keefe lately?
Hi everybody! I'm back - had a business trip and it's been intensely busy at work. Chala, I just sent you a PM!
Anyway, Francois, we do indeed normally have the RtPs on the Sunday of the Columbus Day weekend. If things go as planned, 2009 will be the same! Watch this space for more details!
Tickets do go on sale via the RtP website in advance and you save a bit. However, we also put aside a block of tickets for sale at the door. Sometimes it gets pretty busy so I usually suggest getting your ticket in advance. Nothing worst than hearing a song you've been waiting to hear in a club for over 25 years while standing outside waiting to buy a ticket!
Again, as plans firm up, I'll let everybody know. Thanks for asking!
