The Playlist for Remember the Party 5!

Wanna know what Jerry Bonham played us yesterday (October 8th, 2006) at Remember the Party 5, the most recent Trocadero Transfer reunion party? A set of smooth and warm Trocadero groove oriented disco classics. The party proved there's a definite demand for these wonderful songs to be played in a big club setting. I don't think I've seen this big of a crowd since the RtP events have started. More details later. In the interim, here's Jerry's incredible playlist (and yes Remicks, you missed Marvin Gaye!).

Re: The Playlist for Remember the Party 5!

Mark, I tried hinting that you, of all people, needed to be here for this party. Remember I wrote about a small party at the Stud where Jerry gave us a little teeny weeny preview of what we might expect? I knew this party would be right up your alley! We were blown away from Jerry's set at the Stud, so you can imagine how we felt this past Sunday night. Just amazing that man's talent!

Of course, Mark, I thought of you when Jerry played "Cocomotion." Hey! It sounded so good!

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you, we had 2 PORN stars at the party from Raging Stallion Studios!!! They were there to promote Midori, one of our sponsors for the evening, by passing out t-shirts and glow bracelets. JeffH told me one was Derrick Hanson, but he couldn't remember the other guy. Jeff apparently knew Derrick because they were talking to each other on the second floor. The guy was trying to get rid of the t-shirts and asked if he should throw them off the balcony. He did and of course he hit some poor dancer in the head with the first shirt! I remembered wondering why people were throwing their shirts around the dance floor. :-D

I'll be back to report on some of the high points of the evening a little later. Also, I have some video clips that I may post on YouTube.

Keefe, I had no idea what a theme titled "The Groove" meant... it coulda been Lime meets Cerrone meets Tantra for all I knew! He definitely played some gems-- but no Donna Summer at all??? Ain't she gotta groove??? "Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)" woulda fit.

Ohhhh and Raging Stallion porn stars too!!!! My personal faves. :icon_twisted::icon_twisted::icon_twisted:

That song "Tropical Paradise" is a new one for me. Is it an instrumental?

Why am I awake and on the Forum at 3 am in the morning???

Oh well, since I am, I'll quickly answer some of your questions.

    1. Mark and Remicks, we struggled trying to explain the theme in just a few quick words. We thought the phrase "a Trocadero Disco Groove" was the catchiest for the ads. Then we tried our best to explain in the mass Emails and on the website without, of course, giving away the surprises for the evening. Not an easy task!

    2. Mark, guess where the lost mix of "The Man I Love" came from that Jerry used for the evening? It came from Michael Neumann (for those of you who don't know about Aloha Records, he was one of the original buyers who was instrumental in getting the store into selling dance imports - we called him the "siren of sound")! Michael had made me a reel to reel tape of rare mixes. One day I was showing the tape to Jerry and we discovered Michael put a remix of the song by Roy Thode that Jerry had been searching for the acetate for quite some time.

    3. Eman, you can sign up to be notified of future RtP events at the www.remembertheparty.com website!

    5. Nrg & Jussi, take a peek at the B side of the 12" of Julius Green's remake of "Rock Your Baby." I had to ask about the song too!:D There's one more song you folks won't know because it's been unreleased for over 20 years! Can you spot it??

Wow that is a fantastic selection of tracks isn't it? I so wish I lived near San Francisco! I notice that Fever was mixed into Slick; this is so weird 'cos one of the few good mixes I've ever done (i.e. not a train crash )was last week on my 'wheels of steel' (don't laugh!) & it was with these 2 tracks - they synch together so well.:-P You feel so good when you achieve a good mix for the first time.

Re: The Playlist for Remember the Party 5!

Just returned from our post party meeting/party a little while ago. I always look forward to these meetings so we can compare notes on all of the fun and wild stuff that happened during the night.

One thing I found out was I misunderstood Jerry about "The Man I Love" (oops!). Roy Thode did not do the remix. He used to spin it at the Ice Palace when the two of them were DJs there. Sorry!

Nrg, you're right about the Bear Essense track. As some of you may know, the producers of Bear Essense are two of the producers of the RtP events. They thought this unreleased track would fit perfectly with the groove theme, so they gave the track to Jerry to work his magic. The song fit in perfectly with Two Man Sound!

Thommy, Jerry now has the masters of the CDs we recorded Sunday night. He'll be returning home in a few more days and then he'll be able to get them ready for release. People were asking if they could place preorders as early as Sunday night! I'll keep you posted but you might also want to sign up for future mailings at the www.remembertheparty.com website.

Remicks, your list is fun. However, the way Jerry weaved those songs in and out so intricately, I think you would have found yourself on the dancefloor much more and in the mood for to hear many more! :-)

Sandy, from your comments on this site, I think you would have had a blast on Sunday, especially when Jerry played Phyllis!

Mark, check out the Gene Dunlap cut. It's soooooo good! Chris was introduced to the track by Trip Ringwald many moons ago. Chris in turn told us about the track. This song was one of the songs we heard in the preview at the Stud party and I feel in love with it!

I think you'll remember Brooklyn Dreams once you hear it.

    More later!

He did and of course he hit some poor dancer in the head with the first shirt! I remembered wondering why people were throwing their shirts around the dance floor. :-D
Well, I don't KNOW Derrick Hanson (although I have seen some of his work ;) ) but I did recognize him from having seen him around the Castro several times during the week and a half I was in SF prior to RtP 5. (He's taller than I would have guessed, very thin and hairless--totally not my type.) But I was on the balcony and he squeezed in next to me and said, "I have to get rid of these shirts. Do you think it's OK to just throw them down there [on to the dance floor]?" I answered, "Why not? They're not going to hurt anyone." The first shirt he threw (of about six) plopped right onto one guy's head, some were caught then twirled in the air and one fluttered to the floor. (Derrick throws like a girl. :p )

As for the other Raging Stallion star who was supposed to be there, I can't say I saw one... but in SF, you can't cross the street without passing a porn star, so it's not only possible, but likely.

Glad you're home safe and sound, Jeff! I was hoping you would post the details of the mysterious flying shirts. He wasn't throwing glow bracelets off the balcony also, was he???

At yesterday's meeting, some of the others also commented seeing some very muscular men with Colt t-shirts on. Did you see them? I can't recall, but I sure wish I did!

At yesterday's meeting, some of the others also commented seeing some very muscular men with Colt t-shirts on. Did you see them? I can't recall, but I sure wish I did!
I didn't see any flying bracelets, Keefe, but yes, I did see at least two beefy guys in Colt T-shirts. One of them (a tall, light-skinned black guy, I think, who was also wearing some leather gear) looked somewhat familiar, but I can't be sure if that was because he has "modeled" for Colt or maybe some other studio, or just because he was some gym queen who I'd seen around. ;) You know that city: porn stars, wannabes/could-bes... and all the rest of us!

(PS: I wrote a much longer post earlier with more comments about RtP, but I was unable to post it and neglected to copy it first. I'll try to add more comments later.)

I remember Chanson D'Ellegance. Does anyone know who produced it? For some reason Ian Levine keeps coming to mind.

I would love to have been at this party, as with all the previous ones and I love seeing the playlists to see what different tracks are mixed together. I wasn't clubbing when they were first out so don't know what tracks worked.

You are correct, it's an Ian Levine production, the 12" features a beautiful instrumental on the B side.

there is also a disconet version that features the percussion break passages in the 12" very nicely

Of course you are right .Those are just my knee-jerk reactions to each song. I know at the time , on the dancefloor, a lot of it has to do with what song each one comes mixed from and how it strikes you at that moment.
Not to mention that many of these songs feature special edits giving them an updated twist of renewed appeal.

Reading that list ....could this have been the best one yet ?? How was the turnout ?
( any word on future dates for future events ???? )

And , it'd be great if you could post that GOT TO GIVE IT UP youTube , Keefelc. 8-)

Re: The Playlist for Remember the Party 5!

Patience Remicks, patience. Good things come to those who wait. :D I'm surprised with the sound quality of the half dozen or so clips I filmed with my camera. Turned out nicely and I hope it will be duplicated when posted to YouTube.

As for the turnout, judging by how squeeeeezed together everyone was on the dancefloor, I would say this was the biggest crowd at an RtP event thus far! Isn't that great news?

Anyway, here's the first part of my behind the scenes recap report!

Let me begin by saying how much love and effort is put into each of the Remember the Party events. RtP 5 was no exception, especially to overcome some of the obstacles thrown into our way.

First off, many people wondered why there was only one event this year. That was primarily due our producers needing to concentrate on family issues. After all, family comes first! Plus, planning the music and the lights, well to do them right, takes much thought and consideration. It’s more than grabbing a box full of records and plugging in a couple spotlights.

We had a few close calls too!

First off, our DJ, Jerry Bonham, found out that he needed to be at a gig with DJ Paul Van Dyke in Chicago the night before RtP 5. Fortunately, Jerry was on first, so he was able to leave the club at a decent hour, get a little shut eye, then fly to San Francisco early Sunday morning. We were thankful to learn that the weather that weekend was going to be decent in Chicago and San Francisco. What we found out later is that Chicago was hit by a snowstorm a day or two later causing major flight delays!

Next, for this party, we used a new lighting company to set up and install the mirror ball cluster and elaborate lighting which are necessary for a Trocadero Transfer reunion party. The Glas Kat, which is the current club in the former Trocadero space, has some lighting equipment, but it’s minimal and insufficient to recreate the Trocadero light shows. That’s not always easy to recreate as the lighting company found out. What they intially estimated would be a one or two day job, turned into three long days of work lasting from 9 am to 8 pm, plus they weren’t able to put in everything we had ordered! Added to this complication was the fact that the Glas Kat found they had to repair a set of their own lights on Sunday. About 45 minutes before we were suppose to open, they found a screw broke and had to be replaced. They thought they would be able to get a replacement installed before 6 pm. Nope! So, we had a tall ladder in the middle of the dance floor until about 6:25 pm.

We thought everything would then run smoothly until we heard Carla cry out that there wasn’t any power to her arc lamp. Thank goodness one of our producers, Richard, is an electrician and that Bobby M.’s other arc lamp was working. We we were able to get the party started, especially since there was a pretty long line of people waiting to get on the dance floor!

After much scrambling, Richard established that the problem with the arc lamp (which are rented) was due to the fuse assembly being broken. He told us that as he tried to fix it, the outer casing started crumbling in his hands much to his horror! However, he kept his wits about him, grabbed some electrician’s tape and did his best to put the casing back together. We all let out a huge sigh of relief when they turned on the arc lamp and it WORKED! Yay!!!

Later, as Bob, Carla and Bobby M. worked their magic on the lights, one of the guys from the light installation company (who stayed all evening to monitor their lights) told Chris and Richard he had never seen such a spectacular light show!

    Next, Jerry Bonham’s fantastic music!

Wow! Even with all the mishaps sounds like a fabulous time. I signed up to be notified for all upcoming news and events!! Maybe next time I could arrange for myself to be in the bay area. Question though is it ok to go by yourself, plus I wouldn't know anyone....just wondering. I hope the cd comes out soon for sale so i could order one...would love to hear those songs on the playlist.
