Just wanted to share this with you. Today I went to a local Pick Your Own place and have had the absolute pleasure of having the first corn on the cob of the season and second harvest strawberries.
The corn was the sweetest, most perfectly tender sweetcorn I have ever tasted. The strawberries although not quite as good as the first harvest ones back in June, were also excellent (with some cream and a little sugar). Where I live, I am really spoilt when it comes to strawberries. The 30 or so square miles around here grow the best strawberries in the country and this year they were the best for many a year. During the season I popped down to a local farm about a mile away, almost every day for a few weeks, to buy strawberries picked that afternoon at half the price they were in the supermarkets.
Now all I need to do is settle back with some lovely hot pepper stuffed olives and a glass of red wine and I don't think life could get much better. It's the simple things eh?
Any favourite foods for you that you look forward to each year?

I LOVE crabs, lobsters, shrimps and scallops especially dipped in a tangy seafood cocktail sauce splashed with lemon.

    I LOVE strawberries too:
    Strawberry shortcake
strawberries on top of a 3-scoop sundae
    strawberry icecream
    strawberry FigNewtons
    strawberry cake filling (hate pineapple)
    strawberries with whipped cream
    strawberry daiquiri

Every year in October, Baskins Robbins Icecream Parlor have seasonal icecreams such as Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater (the most DELICIOUS pumpkin icecream I've ever had)! I don't remember the name of the second one, all I know that its chocolate swirl with candy corn, marshmellow, Reeces pieces, Baby Ruth and some other stuff. When October comes, I'm gonna buy a half-gallon of Peter Peter!

    YUMMY TOPIC!!!!

HustleBaby: See, now you've lost me. Don't know any of the ice cream flavours you mentioned. My wife only ever looks for Ben&Jerry's Phish Phood or whatever it's called.
    Can you elaborate?

Baskin Robbins was around for a long time, maybe over two decades. Back in the late 70's, BR was known for its tasty 31 flavors. Over the years, the franchise have lost more than have of its business so the only flavors left are your typical ordinary chocolate, cherry vanilla, butter pecan etc...Like I mentioned in the last post every now and then, BR will have specialty seasonal treats like Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater.

I like Ben & Jerry too! My fave is From Russia with Love (something like that) and Aloha Paradise.

One thing I love and haven't had in years is clams on the half-shell. When I was growing up in Brooklyn, New York, the family would head out to Nathans' in Coney Island. Nathans' was famous for it's hotdogs, french fries and those clams. Give me a dozen "little necks", squeeze some lemon, a dash of hot sauce and I'm good to go!

Hustlebaby, I was just thinking of Pumkin Ice Cream! I love it and it only comes around near Halloween and Thanksgiving (yes, we give thanks for being liberated from England, long live the Queen!) I also love Sweet Cream ice cream, which tastes just like it says. When you put a scoop of it on a scoop of mango sorbet, it's a Puerto Rican delight!

I also looked forward to December when Barneys would put out their lovely Santa's White Christmas coffee: Vanilla and coconut flavored. But now you can get it anytime and it lost its appeal.

Anytime I love lobster, crab legs and shrimp.

Where can I buy sweet cream icecream - supermarkets, icecream parlors???? I have to try it. It sounds GOOD just like how you described on top of Haagen Daaz mango sorbet or peach!

Speaking of Baileys, I just finished my bottle the other day and I intend on buying another one soon. But this Santa White Christmas coffee flavored with coconut and vanilla is new to me. Did you buy this coffee from the supermarkets or specialty stores? I will definetely try it out - I know that I'm gonna like it!

I LOVE Nathan's hotdogs with mustard and sourkraut. Its one of the few hotdogs that taste good plain. But as far as clams goes - YUCK!!!!!!!! I've tried it and I can't stand it!
