Tower Records in San Diego CA

    Hey Guys,
For anyone in San Diego, CA. If you haven't heard Tower Records both in La Jolla and Point Loma will be closing down. Guess I'll have to find somewhere else to buy my cds now. It's a shame, because none of the other "retail" stores carried stuff like the "Let's Hear It For The Boy" series or the "Menergy" series...or any other imports. So if anyone in San Diego knows of any good stores to buy stuff in lemme know... I usually buy my vinyl at Record City in Hillcrest. Good prices!!!:-D

Tower is being liquidated and is closing all or most stores. That's what Tower is doing here in the NY area anyway.

They didn't understand the market, lost to the big box retailers, and lost to the change in format (not to cd but to download).

I've walked into various Tower records and they all were layed out differently. It was not always obvious where stuff was. (Ie Sometimes there was an oldies section; sometimes not.) If you wanted to browse the soul artists, you would have to go through everything. Often times I spent 8 hours wading through pop/rock. It was all mixed in. That's how they specifically did not understand the market.

Eman, first time I'm hearing this though I knew Tower has been in trouble. I guess there are some good deals to be had.
I haven't been to either in a while though I'm closer to the La Jolla store.
As for where to buy rare stuff, I haven't confirmed this but a friend told me Lou's in Encintas, www.lousrecords.com, does.
For the most part I buy online. Record City is another great spot I haven't been to in quite some time.

    Thanks Paul....
I'm in the Mira Mesa area myself so the La Jolla store is closer to me...than Point Loma. I work downtown so Record City is just up the block!!! I've tried Lou's but they just kinda specialize in Rock and stuff...hardly any dance or disco....we'll just have to wait and see what music stores we have to deal with.....Personally, I don't like Sam Goody cuz they are overpriced...Hmmm maybe we can meet someday and trade stuff if you'd like?

There used to be a bunch more in town but it seems most 'em closed down a few years back. I remember several over by SDSU on University Ave.
Anyway, I mostly use Half/Ebay, Amazon, or Gemm.

Eman, I went to the Tower in La Jolla at lunch. If you're going to save money, fughetaboutit! They're giving a measly 10% off the lowest price on the cd. The deal is though everything has the full mark up price. I bet some things are more expensive now than they were before the going out of business sale.
    Good riddance!

Hi went to Tower Today and got a Salsoul Compilation Mix cd...not bad for a $40.00 import that went down to $30.00...has basically all the major Salsoul Hits but no Skyy on it....
