I didn't even know it until a few months back, but an interesting tidbit about Millie was that she was (as Mildred Vaney) one of the main vocalists on the amazing Hott City - "Ain't Love Grand LP..

Millie was also the lead singer on 'Without Your Love' by Cut Glass from 1980.

Simon you are spot on about Millie Scott being a member of the Glories on Date Records in the late 60''s. After that she formed Quite Elegance on HI Records before joining Cut Glass in 76'.

    hello in Middlesborough :D
I bet that 4th & Broadway T-shirt looks damn cool 8) . the quality of the 4th/bay releases is excellent, a good mix of artists. I love the two Millie Scott albums although her debut LP is stronger.

My 4th & Broadway tee-shirt has lasted so long because it was made by Paul Smith. Over the years i've had allsorts of promo stuff given like a Bob Marley tracksuit. most unlikely of all an Anita Baker hoodie? The best promo i had sent must be the "Best of Salsoul" lp all on 12".

Phew Tony glad I got that one right ! Wasn't Orthea Barnes, J J Barnes sister, a member of both Quiet Elegance and Cut Glass too ?

Oh I love that track. When I mention it nobody seems to be aware of it. I do remember reading somewhere that Chris Lowe of the Pet Shop Boys loves it too.8-)

I also love the Loveride track and the follow up 'stop playing on me' reminds me of a London club night in the 80's called Jungle.

I've got a little 4th And Broadway recollection .... not really endearing but it came to mind ... so what the hay ... I'll tell it anyway .......:icon_surprised: :)

--- After PORTALS TO MUSIC folded ( SF record store where I worked ) ... I took on a job with a fellow (Don) who was a Rep for a long list of small labels (including Fantasy and we worked out of the Fantasy Records building in Berkeley) ....Our deal was to go to all the Bay Area record stores ... particularly all the Towers ... and keep them stocked with this assorted small-time stuff .... lots of blues....folk ... classical .... and small label dance stuff .... amongst them 4th & Broadway .
Now Don was a gay chap who wore chaps ... and his bag was country ( hung out exclusively at The Raw Hide on Folsom ) .... his big obesssion at the time was George Strait (ironic ain't it )... and as for me .....I had become weary of the dance scene in general at the time .

Still there were tunes that I liked that Don represented --- X-factors THE PLANET DOESN'T MIND I believe was one ... but Don was very strategic with his promos , and even though he personally didn't want them, it was hard to cattle wrestle much away from him. Even when he knew I wanted certain records he'd be reluctant ..... always carefully guarding his bounty .... even when not in his office   darnit !
For starters, a certain amount got syphoned right off the top by Don as trade toward major labeled country music he wanted . And he had a hell of a collection .
Plus, he really made an effort to get promos to where they were intended. He enjoyed showing up at these record stores like Santa Claus , and properly distributing the records to who liked what . To his credit , he kept track of who worked where and what they liked , and tried to get promos into their rightful hands .... channeling them down to specific buyers as well as some for even the most recently hired clerks .... He did this instead of just handing over the whole stack to the manager (like many reps did ... i.e. payola !!!) which I admired him for. He understood people worked in record stores because .... they like music ! So ,for this reason more than any other I think, we were always well received when we'd pop in. ( a good tactic because it wasn't like we were representing Billboard's current TOP 20) )
As for 4th and Broadway , when all was said and done, Don always seemed to have plenty of extra promo copies which he'd toss over my way.
Trouble was , I honestly never cared for the stuff being released on 4th And Broadway   (sorry) .
Of course I never told Don that, who thought he was giving me dance stuff I'd like ... and from my angle almost any promo had trade value .....so thanks Don. :)

Not all of it got traded though ... so many copies just got mixed into my collection .
As I look at the titles mentioned on this thread , except Jocelyn Brown , I can't identify what they sounded like, but since I have many of them .... I 'll dig them out & give 'em a fresh listen, I'm curious now what's there ....8-)

I was trying to remember the Wally Badarou track the other day and I think it might be in two mixes. I have another one called ' Novella Das Nova' ...that doesn't look right.

It's 'Kiss of The Spider Woman' in English !

I have the Novela Das Nove 12" as well. B-side has the Julian Mendelssohn remix of "Chief Inspecter". Another Wally Baderou 12" single from 4th & Broadway was "Hi-Life". It has another Julian Mendelssohn mix as well as album and radio edit version on there.
Baderou's 1983 "Echoes" album on Island is one of my alltime favorites. I've honestly never heard any other music that sounds even remotely like Baderou's on that set.
www.wallybadarou.com is his website - didn't know he was still in the music business.
