There's heaps to think of especially Van McCoy's tracks because most of his are fantastic disco instrumental versions of other songs. Lets start with his 1974 "Love Is The Answer" LP:

Back Stabbers (originally released 1972 by The O'Jays)

You Are The Sunshine Of My Life (originally released 1972 by Stevie Wonder)
Ain't No Mountain High Enough (originally released 1970 by Diana Ross)
Boogie Down (originally released 1973 by Eddie Kendricks)

Van McCoy's 1975 Disco Baby LP:
Fire (originally released 1974 by the Ohio Players)

Hey Girl, Come & Get It (originally released 1974/75 by The Stylistics)

Van McCoy's 1976 Real McCoy LP:

That old fart who sang "Just A Gigolo"/"I Ain't Got Nobody" was Louis Prima. I believe Bing Crosby also had a version of "Just A Gigolo" too.

    "Sunny" is by Bobby Hebb

Sometimes people complain about artist these days covering old songs, but when i take a look at those lists above it seems that this was very common back in disco-days!
It seems that not only todays artist are suffering from lack of inspiration.

Ah well, sometimes the cover version proved to be better and more succesfull than the original, so I guess covering shouldn't be looked at so negatively then?

(That is untill you here the most horrible coverversion ever made of "I will survive" by the dutch HERMES HOUSE BAND. oh damn, I HATE THAT SONG!!!! in fact i hate the whole band and every crappy disco cover they ever made.)

    On the more obscure side:
Touch Me (All Night Long) by Touch/Fonda Rae and covered by British Kathy Dennis around 1990 - Kathy Dennis' version was such a big hit but I didn't know it was a cover until a few years later...

"If I can't have you" by Bee Gees and by Yvonne Elliman. Funny nobody said that one yet.
There are tons of cover versions. In fact several rhythm & blues songs were covered more than once by soul artists in the Sixties, then these and some soul originals by disco artists in the Seventies, then these and some disco originals by house artists in the Eighties... And there's also rap "covers", of course. Probably this will keep on with any dance style that comes in the future.
And "Just a gigolo"... this Tin Pan Alley classic was material for almost every lounge singer since the Forties. There are also some quirky jazz versions, like the one by Thelonious Monk, T.S. Monk's father.
