I've been busy again this evening compiling yet another Minidisc compilation. Only another 100 or so to go (but I won't bore you with most of them!).
So this is what I put together today:

Jeff Lorber - Spur of the Moment
Onward International - Foot In the Door
George Duke - Brazilian Love Affair
Thunderthumbs & the Toetsenman - Freedom A Go Go
Wilbert Longmire - Black Is the Colour
MFSB - Mysteries of the World
Richard Evans - Burning Spear
Manu Dibango - Big Blow
La Pregunta - Chameleon
Kenny G - Hi How Ya Doin'
Tyzik - Jammin' In Manhattan
Roy Ayers - Running Away
Players Association - Turn The Music Up
R J's Latest Arrival - Ultimate Masterpiece
Oneness of JuJu - Every Way but Loose
Montana Sextet - Heavy Vibes
Sadao watanabe - Orange Express
Rodney Franklin - The Groove
Crusaders - Street life
Tom Browne - Funkin For Jamaica
Herb Alpert - Rise
Bob James - Sign of the Times
Hope these bring back some memories for some of you. My favourite? Impossible to call, with so many that I have played and loved.
Just interested guys. Have you found these tracks too esoteric for your tastes or don't you find any of them of interest or what?
I get the impression that these tracks possibly show up the differences between British and American perceptions of what was Disco music and to some extent explain why so many posters here feel that Disco died around 1980. We've always been quick to hook onto anything that was genuinely danceable, so Jazz Funk was pretty important here (for the better?).
In the UK we had our fling to the new Romantics (a fling which lasted about 2 years), but all the time we were still holding out for whatever Black American dance music was being issued. All of which helped us get over the aforementioned hiccup. By '82 disco was alive and well again, albeit more funky, more sparse and electonic, and I loved what followed in the next few years.
I have a question. Why is it that you get upset when no one replies to some of your posts? Reason I ask is because I noticed with a few of your unreplied posts you've gotten a bit upset.
I've made lots of posts that never get any replies but it doesn't worry me too much.
Anyhow I'll be honest, I've heard a lot of rare 70's funk and disco by downloading through Audio Galaxy, but there's a hell of a lot that I haven't heard of. Out of this list you've mentioned I've only heard of:
Manu Dibango - Big Blow
Roy Ayers - Running Away
I've heard other songs from some of the artists you mentioned on your list but not the songs you've got listed.
Now you mentioned a lot of these are from the early 80's, my main interest with funk/disco is mostly from the early/mid 70's especially 1974/1975 because that's when funk was really HARDCORE and I don't need to give you the list as you already seen them. You know my story about my comments on the 80's and 90's and today so I won't mention it again. Basically I haven't studied the 80's dance that much as I'm not really that much into dance that's post 1982.
Anyhow if I hear any of these songs you mentioned I'll make my judgements of them.
Australia mate! The land of many great funkateers!
FunkyDude: I don't really get upset when no one replies. It's just rather strange to mention tracks which any British DJ worth his salt would have played and have no comments. I just feel a bit alienated I guess. As if I were never a DJ from 72 -87 or I did all my DJ years on planet Zorg?
Plus these are a forum for discussion....
With regard to your other comments. I know that at present you're a Hardcore '70s fan, but I hope you'll get into some of the '80s stuff. For me, being someone who played probably 75% - 80% of the stuff you list and being someone who prefers funk over anything else dance wise, the early to mid '80s were a marvellous time.
So I think you probably will come to appreciate a lot of the tracks I listed here in due course. I'm truly astonished that even you only know 2 of these tracks, as a lot of them were near anthems here in the U.K.
Thanks for your interest.
P.S. Most of these tracks are from the '70s or 1980. from memory only 2 or 3 are beyond 1982.

Quinny, I'll reply to u. U mentioned Tyzik & Jammin in Manhattan which I've got & love (if a bit 'electronic'). Do u know 'Sweet Nothings' by Tyzik from '82 as i think this is even better with its classy orchestration & girlie vocals but I've never been able to find a copy. I think the Lp it was on is called 'Farthest from my Mind'.
...ya gotta beat the street......
Why do you feel alienated? I'm English (only a punter, though) and no way do I feel alienated on this Board. I have been posting here quite happliy for close on 2 years now (there was a predecsssor to this current set-up on the Board) along with others like Funky Dude (BTW I think there was no need for some of the rude comments you made to him...), and I feel perfectly at home here. Indeed, I have made some great and close friends from all over the Globe! On 2002-09-02 02:44, QUINNY wrote:

A word in your ear.....Perhaps if some of your comments were a little less sarcastic and preaching (direct or implied) and more polite and friendly in manner, then perhaps more people would respond to your threads, and you would feel more at home. I get the impression that you don't actually ENJOY corresponding with fellow disco music lovers on this Board! Get a life and lighten up, mate!!
That said, your list is very good and there are many great tunes to "get your teeth into!!" I particularly like Wilbert Longmire and "Black Is The Color"! A tremendous track from such a young and talented (at the time) guitarist! What ever happended to him??
I quite like () Running Away and Big Blow - 2 great tracks from 1977! I love the mix of African and Funk on that Manu DiBango track!!
If it moves - funk it!!
OUCH!!
SENHORES DO GROOVE - BRAZIL
JAZZ: Double Ouch!! from me.
Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, I know, but I was born to be serious I guess, so humour doesn't come easy to me.
As for preaching, haven't you just done that to me?
Can I help the way I am?
Well, Jazz...
How interesting you chose today to make a statement. Apparently, I was feeling the need to make a comment at exactly the same time, albeit in a sister thread. Must have been those beers I had at your BBQ!!! Or something "Caroline" poured on that potato salad!!!!!!
Glad to know I'm NOT THE ONLY ONE who's been a little peeved regarding these putdowns.
I don't wanna make a big thing out of it, cause it isn't --BUT I just felt it was time for someone to say something.
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Yes I have thought some of Quinny's remarks were rude but I try not acknowledging them as people who talk like this are usually insecure & are the first to get upset if you respond in the same fashion, in my experience.
...ya gotta beat the street......
Danger! Sharks circling boat.
Anyone else want to jump on the bandwagon?
