Yet some more Funk and Disco Funk from the '70s that I'm putting onto minidisc, prior to stashing away for another 20 odd years. Most of these were occasional/heavy for a short time plays, back in the day, cos I had all that Disco stuff to programme as well!

Funky Music - Ju Par Universal Orchestra
    Funk Funk - Cameo
Conquer All - Kennie Delt and Prana
    Party Party - Waters
Comin' Round The Mountain - Funkadelic
    Tail Snatcher - Garnet Mimms
A-Freak-A - Lemon (pure Disco I know, but what a funky sound)
We got Our Own Thing - C J & Co
    Dancin' - Crown Heights Affair
Do It Over - Olympic Runners
    Kilowatt Invasion - Kay Gees
    Disco Lights - Dexter Wansel
Turn This Mutha Out - Idris Muhammad
    Dancin' - Paulette McWilliams
    Party Down - Little Beaver
    Color Blind - Maze
Changes (Messin' with My Mind) - Vernon Burch
    Doin' It - Herbie Hancock
    Stellar Fungk - Slave
Hustle On Up (Do THe Bump) - Hidden Stength
Super Band - Kool & The Gang
Rock Me Again and Again.... - Lyn Collins
    Happy Music - Blackbyrds
Shoogie wanna Boogie - David Matthews
    Sting Your Jaws - Ultrafunk
    I Like girls - Fatback
    Express - B T Express
It's Instrumental to be Free - 8th Day
    You and Me - Slave

A few obscure ones there and a few that filled the floor for quite a tour of duty.
My own favourite? probably Dexter Wansel's Disco Lights, although Olympic Runners come a close second.

    Hey QUINNY.
    Great list again.

I have a question about the track "Turn This Mutha Out" by Idris Muhammad, in 1975 Van McCoy did a song "Turn This Mother Out" on his "Disco Baby" album, is this a cover version of Idris Muhammad's?

Just read up a little bit about mini discs as I'm not that educated on this new format, impressive new recording medium, I must invest in one soon.

Couldn't tell you to be honest. The IDRIS MUHAMMED track was written by David Matthews and Tony Sarafino. Hope this helps

Hey Funky, try this website: http://www.minidisc.org

There's loads of good info about MD on that site - it helped me to make up my mind, and I've never regretted it yet.

As you're a computer sort of guy, I would add that the only drawback with MD (incl Net MD) is that there is no digital upload from MD to PC available yet... although we are campaigning Sony to add this feature.. Not too much of a problem for me as I usually record from my Hi-Fi straight onto MD ...

If you have any questions, I will try to help you if I can...

    Hey Quinny,

great comp you made, man. My pick on the list is the track by 8TH DAY, "It's Instrumental To Be Free". Mind blowing stuff!

One of my all-time favourite tracks is 'I'll Never Forget My Favourite Disco' from Dexter's Time is Slipping Away LP (1979- what a year!). I know its more 'pure disco' than 'funky' but I think its pure class. My taste is more for 'pure disco'- unusual for the UK I s'pose.

Steely Dan: I should think there's loads of English people who like pure Disco (especially those more into the Northern Soul scene 'cos a lot of pure Disco tracks were very soulful). I get the impression it was as much a North/South and Urban divide too. At least you remember Dexter Wansel from that era.
My lists are funkier 'cos that's what I'm putting together at the moment.

There's a brilliant value-for-money double CD of Dexter around with 4 of his complete LPs on it. They're all quite different - he never got stuck in a formula. What a genious this guy was to create such gems as Life on Mars & Nights over Egypt.

That Dexter Wansell CD is excellent, I agree! Blax and I have been discussing that CD a lot recently and as a result I have been playing it heavily over the past couple of weeks!

An excellent artist who made a great mix of jazz, funk and soul music. His most popular track in the clubs I used to frequent was undoubtedly "Life On Mars" but my personal favourite was also "Disco Lights". The track Blax got me into recently was "You Can Be What You Wanna Be" which is on the "Life On Mars" LP and is brilliant also. Thanks Blax!

    Thanx Jazz,

But I cant take the credits alone. In fact was Zeca who show me that Dexter Wansell compilation for the first time two years ago.

As we can see, there is a sort of "chain reaction"!!

    Peace
