I always listen to Disco songs with beautiful and magic piano or eletric piano's accords, by example:

1 - "Love to Love", by Donna Summer, in the middle of the song.

2 - "More,More,More", by Andrea True Connection, in the beginning of the song, by Gregg Diamond.

3 - "The Side of Midnight", by Gregg Diamond, in the middle of the song.

4 - "From East to West", by Voyage, in the beginning of the song.

5 - "Spring Rain", disco version, by Silvetti, in all song.

6 - "Turn on to Love", by Jumbo 76, in the middle of the song.

7 - "Dance and Shake your Tambourine", by Universal Robot Band, just the first four accords.

8 - "Zodiacs", by Roberta Kelly, in the final of the song.

If you have more sugestions or some commentary, I'd like to know, of course.

I agree eith you - I love tracks where the tune and /or the bass is carried by the piano/keyboard part.

For example, in agreement with you, I also love that piano part on "From East To West".. Very catchy. In fact I was playing that track at the weekend..

Some other tracks that I would like to add:

Instant Funk - It Ain't Reggae Sure Is Funky - I love the keyboard harmonies that lead in the tune. Fantastic!

Patrice Rushen - Number One. Love the jazzy keyboard solos on that one. Plus the bass/keyboard bass riffs in harmony together!

Galaxy - Head Over Heels (instrumental). The whole song is replaced by a tinkling piano. Wonderful

Charles Earland - Let The Music Play. I love the way the bass is accompagnied by the keyboard - makes it a really powerful record! The jazzy keyboard solo is brilliant too.

If it moves - funk it!!

Being a true Jazzer now, some of my favourite piano pieces in Disco records are:
Spring High - Ramsey Lewis (hell, the guy almost remembers his Jazz roots in the piano solo about two thirds the way through)
Magic Number - Herbie Hancock (Power Jazz Trio plays Disco? more Jazz than Disco probably)
The Groove - Rodney Franklin (like a breath of fresh air in 1980, a little over hyped but good).
Almost anything by Paul Hardcastle ('82-'84/5) The guy REALLY understood what Disco, Funk and keyboards were all about.
Proabaly lots more that I can't think about right now.

Hi guys, specially Marcio my countrymate.

I love the small piano part on "Here Comes the Sun" by Fat Larry's Band.

The piano riffs on "Can You See The Light" by Brass Construction.

The riffs on "Good Times" by Chic.

The solo piano on "The Breaks" by Kurtis Blow.

And many more track that use piano, I cant remember right now!

    Peace

I liked the piano segments on Edwin Birdsong's "Rapper Dapper Snapper" and on USA/European Connections "Love's Coming/Baby Love" throughout.

OK, I'll cut & paste this from one of my other posts....

The pounding piano from Eddie Holman's "This Will Be A Night To Remember"

AND the piano part in the extended version of Madonna's "Holiday".

I LOVE BOTH OF THOSE. Or "Haven't You Heard"??? Another one by Patrice Rushen!!!
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

most driving use of piano in a break - STANDING IN THE SHADOWS OF LOVE - FEVER. this vibe of this track has seldom been equalled and it is not a song one hears people talking about much - but if you get the chance to hear it or use it grab it - this track is an example of what it is all about !!

Off the top of my head Ashford & Simpson's 'It Seems to Hang On', Imagination's 'Body Talk' & 'Kasso' by Kasso (who else?!) are IMHO good uses of the old joanna.

These songs just wouldn't be the same without their piano parts:

"COULD IT BE MAGIC " --- Donna Summer
    .... currently at NO. ONE 8) ( and NO. 16 * ) on Marky's compilation chart

"BORN TO BE ALIVE " --- Patrick Hernandez

"YOU KNOW HOW TO LOVE ME " --- Phyllis Hyman

    *****

    * ( don't ask me .... they're his charts !! :P )

Grand piano heard on tracks like The Brothers Theme by The Brothers, Disco Party by The Trammps.

Clavinet heard on tracks like Sweet Dynamite by Clauja Barry, Open Sesame by Kool & The Gang,

Gospel organ heard on tracks like Erucu from the Mahogany Soundtrack.

Fender Rhodes heard on most Philly tracks, like on I Was Born This Way by Carl Bean, and Love Is The Message by MFSB.

Various synthesizers, like the Arp strings heard on Disco Juice by Cloud One, and of course, the Giorgio Moroder projects like From Here To Eternity.

many good ones in here, here are a couple more Disco tunes where the piano was the main attraction.

George Fischoff " Super Piano, Piano Dancing" (1977)
Cy Coleman "Chloe" and "Speak low" (1977)

I like the piano part of Dee Dee Bridgewater ''Bad For Me'' played by George Duke. It's amazing! Oh Romeo ''These Memories'' and Pointer Sisters ''So Excited'' also are good for me.

Alexander's Soul Time Band by Adam Wade (1977)

I haven't heard more than 23 seconds of it yet (found it at an eBay auction), but Adam Wade has a disco song from 1977 called "Alexander's Soul Time Band" which has some piano play and is a song about a piano player named Alexander who "knew just what he wanted even at the age of 3... he played the piano like a child of destiny". It seems pretty touching just based on this intro alone, and Adam's voice is smooth (he had earlier tried to be a Johnny Mathis type of singer).

I wonder if anyone has heard the whole thing? Is there a piano solo to be found here? Is this about some famous piano player named Alexander?
