Welcome all to a list of tracks that I've been movin' my groove thing to this week.
They're on a Minidisc I've put together, just to lay some tracks down before I put them back in storage.
I remember playing all of these pretty heavily back in the early - mid '70s on.

Hi QUINNY. Fantastic list you have there. I'm familiar with half the ones you mentioned and I LOVE "Follow The Wind" by Midnight Movers and "You're The One" by Little Sister, very catchy funk songs.

FunkyDude: Nice to see your list YET AGAIN! :lol: I can see you're going to be a serious '70s funk head pretty soon.
I just hope you don't get too bogged down in the '70s. It was a magical time for me, 'cos I was playing all that stuff, getting people on the dance floor to it and getting paid to do it, but I have to tell you that a lot of the '70s stuff sounds like it came from the ark now. It even sounds older than some of the '60s stuff to me, especially some of the more obscure funk tracks. There was lots of it around at the time and unfortunately the funk equivalent of the Northern Soul brigade push a lot of titles as being 'gems' just because of their rarity. I could never be into all of that.

I would tend to disagree, Quinny.

For me, personally, the Seventies was the best era for music - and funk music is definitely a part of that. There were a few Seventies funk records that didn't make the grade, to be sure, (and Northern Soul as well), but you make it sound as if the whole genre were bad records.

And that can't be right!. When I play a funk record like "Brick House" by the Commodores or "Funky Stuff" by Kool and the Gang or a host of other records, I am still 100% KNOCKED OUT by them - exactly the same as I was 25 years ago!! I will never be able to get enough of that bass line in "Brick House"! Never! :grin: :grin:

And, yes, I do keep up with and enjoy the new stuff as well!

Hi QUINNY. It depends on the individual's opinion. I'm only 20 years old turning 21 in October this year and I'm a hardcore 70's funk and disco fan, plus I also love 70's Australian rock and heavy metal and glam rock. Anyhow I've listened to 80's dance music and some 90's/millenium stuff on radio but to me it doesn't compare to the 70's. Looking at today and 90's, the dance music is good but it sounds too pop oriented and sounds lipstick/candy/barby doll music to me, there are a few exceptions such as "I've Changed My Mind" by Quannum and "Hard Funk" by Moby they are fantastic but the majority of funk I hear today is in that awful "************/suck my dick" rap/hip-hop music that goes on about pimps, prostitutes, raping, gangster shootings and getting women to suck their whackers and I HATE that sort of music. Also there's those awful boy bands like NSTINK, Backseat Boys, Human BLOODY Nature, Savage Garden and a few others who give dance music a very bad name. Looking at the 80's funk was pretty good especially around 1982 with songs like "Dance Wit Choo" by Rick James, "Body Slam" by Bootsy Collins, "Do It" by Bar-Kays, "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" by Indeep etc... but later in the 80's music became more techno dance/house and a some of these funk groups like Kool & The Gang and Commodores adopted this dance style plus they went bit soft opposed to what they sounded like in the 70's, I like the 80's dance/house music but not as much as the 70's funk and disco music.

The funk from the 80's, 90's and today most of of it ain't as HARDCORE as it was in the 70's. The stuff from the recent years doesn't compare to:

Just for the record I don't mind "Cherish" by Kool & The Gang, it's nice but it's no way near as cool as their 70's funk material.

And 70's disco to me sounds more cool than the Barbie doll techno we have today that sounds too pop oriented and souless. Speaking of Barbie dolls, on Australian TV there was a Barbie Doll music CD compilation called "Barbie's Pool Party Mix" advertised and of course the album cover is very PINK and it features a lot of the popular pop diva techno music like Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears etc... plus techno music from those BLOODY boy bands like NSTINK, Human Nature etc... and thinking that dance music of today has become like this makes me bloody sick mate! Barby dolls, YUUUUUCK!!!

Okay the little girls will love this CD, good for them, I cannot stand Barbie Dolls nor Barbie Doll music especially "Barby Girl" but that's my opinion.

Anyhow seeing I'm 20, I should be by so called peer pressure standards listening to techno, rap or death metal but I chose the music I like and I'm stickin' to it.

Anyhow please don't take my comments to heart, they are just my own personal opinions. What I say may well be a load of crap to some of you :lol: .

FunkyDude: I know you have your opinions and I'd like to see more of them, instead of the same thing over and over and over. It just gets a bit boring seeing parts of the same list for the umpteenth time.

I've got hundreds of disco/funk songs to list. Reason I put those particular ones is because they are the funkiest to I use them as best examples of funk. Also I guess you already read my comment about modern dance in your "Rap Killed Disco" thread. Anyhow reason I repeated my comments on dance music today opposed to dance music of the 70's is to emphasize why I like the 70's better.

Anyhow with playlists I will still include songs I usually mention as I REALLY like them, but I do vary the list with other songs as well, it depends on what subject of disco and funk we're looking at.

As for my comments on todays dance opposed to 70's dance, I'll shut up about that now as everyone knows my opinion for the third time as I've posted about it 3 times.
