yes, it was ours and ours only. The late 80's New Beat who brought the bass back in Dance.

Let's move on with the typical late 80's Belgian Newbeat with some of the best anthems!
The Maxx - Cocaine
Amnesia - Ibiza (Loco Acid Remix)
Edwards & Armani - Acid Drill
Arbeid Adelt! - Disco Death (Originally by P.I.L.)
And this my friends is the first record of the man who would later write, produce and record Technotronic's "Pump Up The Jam"
Kash In The East - Kamaleio

SHADES OF SEVENTIES
Thx Glenn, I'll try to pick the best from that era:
Erotic Dissidents : "Move Your Ass And Feel The Beat"
Neon : "Voices"
Tragic Error : "Tanzen"
Taste of Sugar : Hmm Hmm
And the Mix:
Various - Dit Is Belgisch - C'est Belge - New Beat Mix
Johan,
Your post inspired me to listen to some Belgian New Beat in my collection. There was a time where I bought quite a bit of this on CD. What about these titles?
F.O.G.: Electrify
Boytronic: Bryllyant (33 1/3 Plus 8 Remix)
In-D: Virgins IN-D Sky
Jade 4 U: Rock It To The Bone
Positive: Change This Circus

Bernie, that was Genesis: actually this record started it all, but not the original track. A DJ at the famous Ancienne Belgique Disco in Antwerp/Belgium pitched this one down to create an hypnotic beat and the basis of the New Beat was born. That's the story but...actually Belgian Bodymusic pioneers Front 242 established this kinda beat, they're the TRUE inventors:
Now Jade4U is a member of the Praga Khan/Lords Of Acid posse and is more considered as Acid House. Nikki is still very active nowadays:
So is 101 who did a great cover of Reese & Santonio's "Rock To The Beat" but that 1's more New Beat:

Space Opera: "Mandate My Ass"
Miss Nude: "Taste My Acid Fruit"
Mac Sample: "House Inspector"
Zinno: "Russian Roulette"
The synthesizers are so incredble in some of these numbers - simple but very funky in their own way. I love the creativity and oddness of the theme(s).
One of my all-time favorites was by Miss Nicky Trax, titled "Baby, It's Allright Now" - it was a very moody song but great feel.
Thanks again, Videoscooter for posting and making this music stand out!
Glenn :)

While posting the thread on Claudio Simonetti, I just thought of the fact that there were 2 bands under the banner "Capricorn". One, is the Italodisco outfit, but a second one is Dutch and this one-man-band has put out a superb track in 1993 which for me is one of the great examples of the evolution from New Beat into Acid(House). IMO very ahead of it's time and I still play this one frequently!
I wondered if this cut is known outside the Benelux?
"20Hz"
Let's celebrate: 20 years of New Beat. If you are not familiar with the scene than this is the moment to be inducted in the Temple Of Deep GrooveZ:
20 years! Where has the time gone. It seemed like only yesterday that I bought my first New Beat compilation CD at Tower Records in NYC and heard "Taste of Sugar" for the first time.

OMG, Bernie, that was a tune. All the decent Belgian boyz and girlz (and later the rest of the world) were suddenly singing "you wanna s**k my...". Such nastiness :icon_mrgreen: A great track by Morton, Sherman and Bellucci:

As you can read in the article, it was a very small group of people that made all those different traxx!
My fave is still:
New Beat is mainly coming from Antwerp/Belgium. Just found these great pics;
The Discothèque where it all started: the legendary Ancienne Belgique (not to be confused with the still existing one in Brussels/Belgium).
And this tiny but awesome recordshop in Antwerp/Belgium, my favourite address during the 80's. Here DJ's were experimenting with pitching and mixing and many Belgian music trends were invented.

BTW New Beat is not to be confused with Nouga Beat.
Nouga Beat (very commercial)
Classic New Beat
