    Question Forgotten Heroes? STEPHANIE MILLS

Smooth and catchy, Steph made some great records:

    "Bit By Bit"

Hey Videoskooter, I guess we have different tastes because Stephanie lost me on those electronic songs. My fav's were "Whatcha gonna do with my lovin'", "Sweet Sensation", "Never knew love like this before". I also dug her post electronic era songs like "Puttin' a rush on me" "Something in the way you make me feel", and one from 1992 called "All day, all night" that has an extremely melodic verse and is one of her best ever.

Eddie, we don't have different tastes. The other stuff is not available yet, but I (or somebody else) will post it when it appears online.

The first Stephanie Mills single I bought "This empty place" a cover of a Dionne Warwick song on Motown 1974.

Of course, the song I remember making her a disco sensation was "Put Your Body In It."

I've just remembered one of Stephanies 90's tracks I like "All day all night" I have a mix of it with a sample of George Benson "Give me the night" on it,it's a great track.

There's something about that "All day, all night" track that's become my favorite of hers. I thought it was an alright song when I heard it back in 1992 but its really grown on me. I think its the melody in the pre-chours and the synthy vibes. Vibes are definitely a good way to get my attention.

Last year I became aware of an alternate version of Stephanie Mills's hit NEVER KNEW LOVE LIKE THIS BEFORE. It's on a CD called "80s Disco Party" released by Deja Vu in August 2005, sold at http://www.musicline.de/de/product/76119409423

It's identical to what we hear at http://www.alapage.com/mx/?tp=F&type..._NUMERO=447391
and that was on Sony Music Media's MUSIC BOX : DISCO FUNK compilation from September 2004.

You'll notice it's quicker paced and her voice is a little more energetic, whereas the original is more smooth.

I was pleased to find a television appearance where this alternate version is being played as she lipsynchs, so that I could hear it in its entirety. Here's the link...
    Alternate version:

    compare with
    Standard (hit) version:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbjzmY8ozak

Can someone please tell me the history behind the alternate version? Why was it made? Was it released as a single and distributed to discos, around the time when the more ballady version hit the charts? 1980 or 1981? Was it only distributed in Europe? Was it in fact ever released on vinyl back then, or was 2004 the first release?

Help solve the mystery! Thanks in advance!

I love the single she released in 1987 "Your puttin a rush on me".. superb !
Not so keen on "The Medecine song" tho.. Love most of her earlier stuff as well and "Pilot Error" is a great dance track

How about You Can Get Over?

Fast paced and thankfully released on 12 inch with a 9 minute mix. Very neat intro too.

    I love this song.
