The only long remix I ever heard of "Freedom to..." was one made by a small remix group called PAJ in Montreal in the seventies.
It was more like a "montage or splicing mix" and that's the only place (Limelight/Robert Ouimet-DJ) I heard it.
When I moved to the Seattle area in November 2002 I figured my timing was perfect. The Experience Music Project, (a huge new music museum next door to the Space Needle) was just about to open a major exhibit called "Disco: A Decade of Saturday Nights". Being a devoted and dedicated fan of all things disco I thought I moved to heaven. I rushed to the EMP ASAP and had a great time. I spent ALL DAY in that exhibit and paid full attention to all the minutsia of every display. I was happy. Happiest of all was that a mystery song I loved but never knew who did it was there on the headphone kiosk... Freedom to Express Yourself by Denise La Salle. At the display was a facsimile of the album cover Second Breath. The mix of the song I was hearing was definitely a longer version than the only version I had heard on the radio in 1978, but since they were displaying the album jacket I figured this longer cut was the LP version and they had played a radio 45rpm cut on the air. After checking out the gift shop in the museum and finding virtually no disco music for sale there (bad marketing move on their part) I went home and found the album online. Guess what? It was a short version! Did a 12" ever get made of this song? Where did that long mix come from? Vince Alletti had a big hand in putting the exhibit together. Does anyone have his e-mail?

Norm-I bought this Lp when it was released because
of "Freedom..".It was a huge hit in the clubs it was played
and after a few months of release a "mystery" acetate
mix began to chart alongside the LP mix(according to Billboard)I searched everywhere for years for this mix-
was it an actual ABC/Dunhill 12"? what was it? About 5
years ago,I won this elusive 10" acetate on Ebay.It is
more of a "Walter Gibbons" mix of the Lp-almost a complete breakdown, dubby version-hot,but like some
of his mixes,I wish that some of the vocals were kept.
I'm not sure if this is what you heard, but I've never seen
another mix of this great track.
Thom
That sounds interesting but the vocals were all there. The PAJ version above is more likely what they played at the EMP exhibit. Lucky you to get that acetate! How long does it run?
Just received a PM, here, from one of the PAJ member. Seems that their +/- 50 re-mixes, from the Montreal Limelight's glory, will somehow re-appear. They have their own personal web page with a little bio.
These were the best "splicing-mix" remixers I have ever heard.
it's a personal webpage, in french
