My BEST years where disco music was released were in this order:

    1) 1979 - A++
    2) 1974 - A+
    3) 1976 - A+
    4) 1984 - A+
    5) 1975 - A
    6) 1977 - A
    7) 1978 - A-
    1980 - A-
    9) 1981 - B+
    10)1982 - B-
    11)1983 - C
    12)1985 - B
    13)1986 - B+

After that I have no recollection of most of what was released....

What were some of yours? and do they go beyond 1986 or before 1974?

    Dear DanceMan!
My favorite DiscoYear was 1979, because
this was the year with 36 Months!!! Every-
thing was possible from Disco Goes New Wave,
    DiscoCrossoverToRock, so many fantastic
BlackDiscoRecords and also so much crap
in DiscoBeat. Everybody made Disco and it
seemed for a short time, that the whole
planet was dancing to one beat!!!
Was that what I am dreaming all time?
ONE NATION UNDER ONE GROOVE in the DISCO
    INTERNATIONAL. Besides the trash from
    mainly BIG-COMBOS and MusicPornoLand Munich,
there was such a unbelievable creativity
everywhere. Disco was the topic for every
    kind of DanceMusic...no necessarity talking
about HI-NRG, Rap, House, Garage, New Romance
or New Wave and all the splitted chaos in
    the coming years.

My favourite disco year was 1977 - as that is the year when I discovered the music.

At 16 coming on 17, when, as a teenager, you feel you have the world at your feet, coming across this music was fantastic. I have never looked back.

Such a strong year for the music, it was!!

I finally gave up clubbing in 1989...

For the rercord here's my two penn'uth.
1973 - My second year as a club DJ, in a club where everything was accepted. We had some exceptional live bands too ( Bob Marley, Camel, Sharks, Sensational Alex Harvey Band were probably the best known)
1976 - My second year in a Mallorcan Disco. I made lotsa friends and became a local celeb.
1979 - My second year at a Southampton Disco/Diner where I was made to feel special by the management and the punters(there's that word again).
1982 - Probably the happiest year of my DJ life. I was working in Winchester for decent money and I felt as if I was in control of my life.
1985 - the first year in what was to become my last venue as a DJ. This was in Portsmouth. we were moulded into a team by the management and it was a very happy 'family'.
Notice I haven't mentioned the music. Well, I loved all years from '72 - '87 cos I was doing what I loved doing and the music kept on shining through.

To me, the best disco years are 1977 up to 1979. I was 17 at that time and was able to watch "the disco movement" close (as one could, living here in Brazil).

Here, in the early 80's there was no more trace of disco music in the night clubs... HI-NRG never made it to brazilian discos.

Instead, they used to play the horrible brazilian new wave rock bands or US and UK new wave rock.

Later that decade, around 1984/85 thanks to Madonna, Sandra, Rick Astley, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Hazel Dean, Expose, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Swing Out Sister and others things got back to "normallity" in the night clubs again.

No doubt about it: 1979!

I think my Top 25 list will reflect this too.

Strickly in terms of disco, 1979 was my favorite. The combo of sex, music and drugs was like being in utopia. Next would be 1978, 1977, 1980, 1976, 1981, 1983, 1982 and 1975.

Hi folks! Missed talkin' with ya and just had to come back. Really, I never left, just grew silent. Meanwhile, back to the topic... My favorite disco years were from 1973 to 1979 because those were my "coming out" years. (Not all the come-outers are boys here!) Disco was my LIFE, at least on the weekends! The music was THE BEST. I lived to dance. "Lost in music...caught in a trance."

In terms of music, 1979 was probably the best year and also the beginning of the end... marked with Chic's triumph as producers and the beginning of rap with "Rapper's Delight" as it has been said here many times.
But for me, in my personal life, the best years were 1981-82... when disco music were more funky, 12"s were the law and I could enter a dance club more easily (I was 16-17 at the time). Also they were the years when I started DJing for fun with one friend from school. He ended being a pro some time after, and I returned to write, which was and is my first and only love... but hey, this is a disco post, so I better stop now.

I begun as dj in a disco in 1974, when philly sound just started, in that time I put soulful music, like "you sure love to ball" of Marvin Gaye, also a lot of Stivie Wonder, Spinners,O´Jays "Back stabbers", etc.
I remember "Smarty pants" and "armed and extremely dangerous" of First Choice, also Ecstasy, Passion and Pain; Moments, Isley brothers, "Midnight sky", "That lady", "Summer breeze"...too much to mention.
    For me 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978 and in 1979 I finished at the disco.
In Spain the eighties were a desert in disco music, the only record that I found was "Phone home" of Johnny Chingas.

I have to agree with most of you, like wine, 1979 was THE peak year where Moroder was king of the world.
1980 was to me, a bit depressing to see disco starting to fade under the newwave era along with the rollerskate fever vanishing gradually.
If you buy this record your life, will be better.

I didn't live in the disco era but I have to agree with all of you that 1979 was the best year because there was a lot of stuff made, probably the best disco songs. Then my picks are 1978 and 1977. I'm also fond of the 80s but 1980, 1981, and 1982 in my opinion were like the partying was ending.

    Hi Leanmean!

I thought that you were gone for good so its nice to have you back on board!

I was very young during the disco years but I will have to say the years I favored most were from 1975 to 1978 maybe 79. There were so many memories and great parties, weddings, anniversaries etc..... I just remembered that my mother and her friend used to give AVON and TUPPERWARE parties back then with disco playing (at low volume) in the background.

It always struck me that there seemed to be more records released in 1979 than any other year I can remember. I found it frustrating because I was 14 then so I had to hear disco music on the radio rather than in clubs, & I found that here in the UK radio turned its back on disco in favour of punk & ska music. This was also the year when it seems to me that the seperation of different disco styles took place i.e. funk, jazz fusion, poppy disco, 4/4 zingy gay/Euro disco etc. which made it even more interesting.

1976 and 1978. My favorite artist in 1976 was Elton John and my favorite song was "Silly Love Songs" by Wings. In 1978 my favorite artist was the Bee Gees and my favorite song was "Night Fever", also by the Bee Gees. I just have fond memories of those years. I guess I was doing good in school and that's all I cared about. Also my adoration to Donna Summer became eternal during those years.
    Have a Disco Life.
