    Exclamation Triple Treat! RICK JAMES

The king of Punkfunk but also DISCO. Rick James had a tragic life but he damn sure grooved!

I really go bezerk on this one (guaranteed):

And you definitely do not want to see me Hammertimin' on this one:

    "Super Freak"

The 12inch versions of his hits is the only way to go with Rick. I first heard the second half of "Superfreak" when I bought the Deluxe reissue of Street Songs. One half of the song is omitted from the album and its a shame because the 12 inch version elevates this hit to a classic.

did you know that Rick James also did a song with Mariah Carey on her "Glitter" bomb? It's one of the few songs on the soundtrack that I like, but I'm surprised she worked with him considering his reputation at the time. Even one of the original Mary Jane Girls admitted to being afraid of him (shocker, huh?)

Was he still alive when she recorded "Glitter"?

Yes Rick James wrote the track All my life for the Glitter soundtrack and he did produce it with Mariah in 2001.Recording artist/producer Bryan Loren is also featured on the song.

The pairing may have come as a surprise but let's remember that Carey was going for an authentic 80's sound with tracks like I didn't mean to turn you on and Last night a DJ saved my life being covered for the film project & soundtrack.

I'm sure others will disagree, but I thought it was a horrible decision for Carey to try re-interpreting funk and disco classics like "Funkin' for Jamaica", "Candy" and "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life". Her voice has no grit, and I think she knew that, which would explain why she used so many male guest artists on those tracks. BET she won't try that again anytime soon.
