Even the Spanish didn't like 'em, especially the ones who came to my disco.;-)
The sort of music that gave Disco a bad name, IMO.
They certainly are not forgotten, and they sure were D.I.S.C.O![]()

All the Spanish people I know are hip to Baccara, as is anyone into glamorous icons of popular culture let alone disco. Now of course only the lead singer Mayte Mateos remains of the original duo, still mispronouncing words to such a charming effect. At every change I get I will mention this fact: some 4 years ago I got invited to sip cocktails with the group. Yes, there I was, champagning the night away with BACCARA! like something out of an episode of Ali G Show's "Funkyzeit Mit Bruno", only straight, and trying to keep my eyes off Mayte's absolutely sensational legs.
For goodness sake, forget about your own petty, drunken, English pub jukebox attitudes and look at the wider disco picture!!!
Thirty years later and where is Baccara? Still touring, still beautiful, still being played and remixed every couple of years.
And where are you? A henpecked husband who has his records packed away and looks like Dick Cheney with a toupee.
IMO:lol:
'disco' means different things to different people. 'Yes Sir I Can Boogie' was a massive pop hit in the UK, but it was never played in the clubs here. The DJ would have been lynched. Baccarra are just considered in the same league as Joe Dolce or Ottawan. Jokey holiday records. I wouldn't know whether other European disco fans like them in a jokey way, or seriously consider that they are good. But if you asked most UK disco lovers who were around at the time about Spanish disco they would only think of Barrabas.
my two cents....
I actually LIKE this record, it's not hip everywhere....but it is joyful and camp and makes people enjoy themselves
Both, with varying degrees regarding individual tracks. "Parlez-Vous Francais" is absolutely sublime if you ask me, as perfect a pop song as you can get. Of course it's silly, cheesy and all that but that's besides the point. The emotions unleashed by the tune are too strong. "Yes Sir I Can Boogie" - certain nostalgic charm but due to overexposure in Car Wash-styled clubs catering for the funny wig&platform shoes crowd, wouldn't advise to bring that track on. "Feel Me" - how can you resist lyrics like "will this good girl be a sinner, after dinner?", and those sleazy violins. That's the way it goes with Baccara.
I actually went to see Baccara (I'm not sure whether it was the original girlz) at a gay club here in Manchesterford in '89 & they put on a great show for the boyz! (so did I after a few drinks but that's another story!;-) ) By that time they also had in their repertoire a few good hi-nrg songs like 'Fantasy Boy' as well as the classic 70s euro-disco. I think my theme tune should be 'Sorry Im NOT a lady'!
...ya gotta beat the street......
San,:o :o :o You're NOT a lady ???:icon_surprised:
I thought from you pic that you were a big butch les......
Well FIRGET IT.....
Go back to Videoskooter ................Heartbreaker![]()
Don't get involved with me starsky, I'm just a homme fatale! Where I tread heartache follows.
...ya gotta beat the street......
I don't think you look like Dick Cheney q. More like Lon Cheney!;-) Only kidding old thing. (Is it a toupe?)
...ya gotta beat the street......
OMG, I almost started the apocalypse with this one :D BTW, this was/is very big in our clubs, even the more alternative ones. This is a record that you also can play at a granny-party, they'll love it :D
This was camp at its best. Charming, witty, tongue-in-cheek and I honoustly don't know if it was intended that way.
But if this record would dissapear from the earth I would regret it very very mucho, coz' I simply can't resist those 2 honeys. And talking about real Disco: "Body talk" ain't that bad IMO.
And please don't attack Joe Dolce. I like him, he ALWAYS gets me in the right mood, even in very hard times ;-)

BTW,to all people here and present, I'm searching for Spanish Disco (meaning from Spain) but my knowledge comes short here. Who can come up with good stuff????
OMG, Jussi!!!!!!!!!

The weather in Dorset (Poole) was lovely Q for most of the week; we only got as far as Devon & that was even nicer. I always thought Dorset was a tranquil sleepy place but the day we were in quaint Bridport there was a multiple stabbing of school girls!:o What's happening in this country of ours? I left Manchester to get away from that kind of thing.
...ya gotta beat the street......
Sorry video, I'm straying from Baccara aren't I?
...ya gotta beat the street......
What - where did you get this ad, such a shock! Actually, I DID go to Herc as well, but THAT was not the place nor the time when I had my little tete-a-tete with Mayte and Cristina. Wouldn't have been nice for us to lounge around those premises, the ladies in their high heels might have lost their balance slipping on the gooey stuff those guys carry in the soles of their shoes, no, boots. The Hercules affair was good, but nowhere in the extraordinary league of the previous open air concert.
I always kinda liked "Body talk" and "Yes sir, I can boogie". Not any of the rest of their stuff. There's way much better disco around.
I'd never heard "Parlez-vous Français" before, and don't regret it, except maybe for the laugh. The music sounds like "Yes sir...", and the lyrics (and the way they're sung) is grotesque.
