I would guess I'm not the only person from Australia using disco.com, so I'm wondering if anyone who is from Australia, knows of a good source of good quality used 12" disco?

I have been getting most of mine from the US and this can be expensive. Any Australian copies I have, have mostly come from record fairs.

Hey mate. I'm from Australia too and believe me disco records aren't as easy to come by in Australia compared to USA.

Anyhow I remember a shop somewhere in Sydney that sells 12" records although I think from memory they were more from the 1980's but it's been 3 years since I been there and I had virtually no money because I spent most of it in Good Groove Records which was just a few buildings down and didn't buy anything from that store. I must say Good Groove records have really fantastic disco/funk records that are extremely rare to find anywhere else.

I'm sure Melbourne would have a number of disco/funk record stores because Melbourne has a lot happening there.

Anyhow some other areas you may find 12" records would be in op shops, Salvos, markets, record/book shops etc... or throw a "Wanted To Buy" ad in the Trading Post asking for 12" records.

I myself go digging through markets, Salvos, Smith Family, book shops, record shops for good disco and funk and usually I see shitloads of old farts music i.e. Kamahl, Bing Crosby, brass marching bands, etc... but in amongst those crap records I find some good 70's disco and funk. I find 12" records here and there ranging from good condition to poor, I've only been collecting for 5 years and have aquired between 30 and 50 12" records.

I was wondering do you's get any disco radio stations over in Adelaide that play more than the mainstream stuff? Over in Illawarra we only have 96.5 Wave FM as a retro station and they most belt the living **** out of the mainstream disco like you know "YMCA", "I Will Survive", "Stayin' Alive", "The Hustle" etc... not that I hate the songs, just overplayed that's all. I'm a lover of really rare funk and disco.

Anyhow good luck with your search.

    Hi,

Nice to know I'm not the only Aussie here! Locally we have Dance100.

Their ID's usually announce Dance100 or Chocolate City. No announcers (alll automated). Sounds like we get a wider range of disco/funk/hi-nrg then you. While mainstream still is in there here and there, they play a lot you would not normally hear. For example: Hills of Katmandu by Tantra, I heard It Through the Grapevine by P'zzazz, My Baby's Baby by Liquid Gold, Disco Kicks (remix) by Boystown Gang, Undercover lover by Debbie Jacobs etc etc.

Hey, do you think I can perhaps e-mail you a list of some records I'm after, and get you to keep an eye out for me?

Hi. I'm amazed Australia has radio stations that play more than just mainstream disco. 96.5 does sometimes play stuff that doesn't normally get played like "Soul Makossa" by Manu Dibango, "Pick Up The Pieces" by Average White Band, "Que Sara Mi Vida" by Gibson Brothers but that's about as non-mainstream as they go. I wonder why they never play "Machine Gun" by the Commodores? The only Commodores stuff they play is "Easy" and "Three Times A Lady", they are nice but not the best to my opinion, I love their funky stuff better such as "Machine Gun", "I Feel Sanctified", "Slippery When Wet", "Let's Get Started", "Too Hot Ta Trot", "Flying High", "Midnight Magic" etc...

Anyhow yeah sure, email me what records you're after and I'll get them if I see them, I might even have them in my collection.

Anyhow I was wondering does Dance100 and Chocolate City play "Movin'" by the Brass Construction? I'm not sure if you heard it but it's a FANTASTIC disco/funk song from 1975 with a lot of energy and is supercool.
