Saw this post last week and jumped to order The Master Of The Masterpiece: The Very Best Of Patrick Adams from the Underground Hip Hop site, and though this isn't available yet in the LP form - the CD version is.
It arrived yesterday, and I was not disappointed! I have about half the songs on here already, but the rest consist of those very, very hard to find P&P or ScorpGemi or RedGreg, etc. releases.

The cuts by Daybreak, Marta Acuna, Pete Warner -I've never heard before, but are all true Patrick Adams creations! I'd recommend this collection to anyone who considers themselves a Patrick fan, it's a 2-CD collection 18 songs in all, and worth every penny, less than $15 U.S. + shipping.
    I hope theres a 2nd volume in the works!

BTW - another compilation I recently bought "Disco Xplosion" (3CD) also includes about 8 or 9 lesser known Patrick Adams produced tracks though out the set, not all as impressive as the ones here, but definitely worth aquiring.;-)

    Hey Q,
The disco explosion cd set is very good, it was mentioned quite a bit back in the February section of the Billboard charts thread.....some fans of this set commented.

I too bought the P.ADAMS CD - disc 1 I need to listen to more, as it didn't have much impact on me the first time.....
disc 2 was more familiar and I loved nearly every track. BTW the Love Bug track seems to be a remix ?? do you know anything about this ?

And I too would like the LP, but I haven't found a UK seller yet....

Starsky, I truly enjoyed the Disco Xplosion set, glad I picked it up! Now with the P.A. set, of course everyone has their own tastes, I just happen to be BIG on 70's soul ballads and mid tempo stuff, so those Daybreak cuts are just HOT to me,:icon_mrgreen:
Now the site I purchased it from UndergroundHipHop.com they are offering the LP too, it's just not due for release until Sept. 19th, so go order if you still want it they're taking pre-orders they ship to the UK.
The Lady Bug track is the same version from the BumbleBee LP - I don't have the 12" - so I can't make any comparisons, and I'll still not sure if "Love" Bug & "Lady" Bug are the same song (ie, different mixes...) or 2 totally different ones.....
But I have to say, I wasn't impressed with the Atmosphere Strut remix, it just didn't carry the "energy" like the original IMO.

daybreak has been a classic in rare soul clubs here for years and has gotten very expensive a greal double sider with i need love on the other side which is also gets lots of attention, available again now as a 7" re-issue lookielikie, pete warner also popular from release and more than $200 dollars now, getting hard to find considering its a polydor release , great record:razz:
ill reccomend a c.d to you for two reasons 1 it has 'i need love' daybreak on it and 2 its one of the best comps EVER! full of great rare tracks

Thanks for the suggestion DiscoDisk, I'll definitely check it out:)
I read quite a lot here on the boards about "Northern Soul" - but not being familiar with many of the artists mentioned I've been a little hesitant to start tracking down any CD's, LP's, etc. Since I really don't know what I'm looking for, lol. So this collection will give me a starting point, which will, undoubtably, lead to other purchases.

Another Daybreak track to look out for is "Everything Man." there is also a version by the Imperials.

I ordered the CD. I'm very disapointed with the sound quality on some tracks. Very distorted sound and a lot of LOUD "pops".
I have five of the tracks on vinyl which I grade as VG++ and they sound much better without any restoration

Why can't they get some decent vinyls as masters and learn some basic skills about cleaning up vinyl recordings?

I have a vinyl copy of the "Essential Modern Soul" and the sound quality on that could be better. Luckily i have the best tracks on singles anyway.

As a reissue producer I can answer your question. No one and I mean NO ONE may have any idea where the master tapes ARE. Do they exist? In what condition? Are they even playable? Legal rights are not PHYSICAL RIGHTS. Someone may own the physical masters who quite simply did not want to or even HAVE to turn them over to the producers of this set- if they even KNEW about the set. CD production is very closed. I am friends with quite a few producers who have downright dissapointed me because they didn't ask for outside input. "Is this the right version?" "Do you know who has the physical master tape?" "We can only master from vinyl- the tapes are trash- do you know where we can get a MINT or SEALED copy to master from?" There are many variables and many things can happen.
I do not know Mr Patrick Adams. I wrote him a glowing fan-boy letter once when the Razor and Tie label let me do an Eddie Kendricks Arista reissue (2nd lp was heavy on the Patrick Adams productions), and was awe-struck when he acknowledged me. I have had no contact since then. But knowing that he and ex-partner Peter Brown are re-releasing EVERYTHING they can that sells on eBay for over 300 dollars (yup, thats the threshold)....then we get a self-produced badly and inconsistently mastered independently (by TRAFFIC DISTRIBUTION) distributed CD that by virtue of it's....BADNESS....does not truly pay tribute to the man who produced such great music.
You can make different sonic sources work, but the engineer has to know what they are doing. You have (presumably) already saved money by using vinyl or existing CDs.....when you are now piecing all this together you HAVE TO SPEND THE MONEY to get a consistent sound that matches from track to track as closely as possible. THIS WAS NOT DONE HERE. I mean Keep On Jumpin by Musique sounds as though it were mastered from cassette~!! The Unidisc Cds are out there~!! They too, are not mastered at optimum quality (waaaay too bright), but they are from the master tapes and nothing is so bad that some good EQ work could not solve. Use then a sources not your personal cassettes. I could go on for days, but just stay away from this MESS. Copy the songnames and look for them on other CDs...not THIS ONE.

Which CD are you referring to: The Patrick Adams or the Essential Modern Soul? I just bought the Patrick Adams on Saturday...have not taken the plastic off---but I was under the impression from previous posts that this was a MUST-HAVE. :icon_question::icon_question::icon_question:

I was referring to the Patrick Adams CD. I think DonaldCleveland was referring to this CD. Thank you very much for sharing your insight DonaldC.

I still consider it worth having, but do not dispute the above comments regarding sound quality on some of the songs, they are correct, but like it was also mentioned, you can never be sure why they had to release it that way But for me this is the first time I've been able to hear some of these songs, so I don't regret buying it, I mean I've got as much chance of finding & affording original P&P/RedGreg/ or ScorpGemi releases as I do of being a worse president than George Bush:icon_twisted::D

The tracklist looks really good. I just have one question for those who have bought and listened to this already, are these full length tracks or short length edits? I'm asking because it's on cd format.

I'm not home to look at it at the moment, but I'm pretty sure all the songs are full length versions.
I wouldn't have bought it otherwise, I hate edited versions of songs.

Short length edits on the vinyl. Sound quality is hit and miss. On one song the record they recorded it from skips thus giving the impression of a defective vinyl copy when in fact this 3LP set is brand new and there is nothing wrong with it. Be prepared for below average sound. Otherwise a good buy if you are a fan of the music.

I'm kind of surprised no one seems to be asking the question that came to my mind when I saw the Patrick Adams CD: will it lead to a lot of "best of Produced by" compilations? The best of Alec Costandinos, Gregg Diamond, Dan Hartman, Moroder, Morali, Edwards and Rogers, Freddie Perren, and so on?

The first post on this thread is over five years old, so I think we already know the answer to whether this will lead to a lot of "best of Produced by" compilations.
