Don't forget, Al along with Kevin McCord were responsible for Alicia Myers & Oliver Cheatham:grin:
We all know him and his later work with "One Way" but is he still around?
BTW, if somebody finds the video for "Mr. Groove" I would be very happy.
I don't think Disco Funk has posted this one already:
"You can do it"

Yes Al Hudson put some great stuff out.
my 3 favourite tracks by him.
"You can do it"
"Spread love"
& "How do you do".
I haven't posted that one. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard that track before. Sounds like it was inspired by Kool & The Gang's 'Ladies Night'. It would definitely mix cleanly into that song.
Disco Funk
think 'You Can Do It' came before 'Ladies Night' but might be wrong.
Love Al Hudson. My faves -
"Music"
"Under Your Spell"
"Lost Inside Of You"
"Spread Love"
Hi jj6ms: I think you're right. Just checked the Guinness Book Of Hit Singles and 'You Can Do It' entered the UK chart in Sept '79, whilst 'Ladies Night' made it's debut 6 weeks later.
Apart from the tracks mentioned (played both 'Spread Love' and 'How Do You Do' out recently), the biggest Al Hudson tune for me was 'Dance, Get Down (Feel The Groove)'.
Nice one Greg.
Can't think of the Al tune you mention at the end there...
what LP's it off?
cheers Greg, i'll have to check it out.
Al Hudson and One Way are poorly represented by what's in print and on Cd especially domestically. There are many best of's and all are under an hour and include the work of Alicia Myers. I bet One Way and the Partners had over a dozen albums.
"Lost inside of you" is a great pick for a sleeper ballad as JJ6MS indicated. I also like "Lady you are" and "Don't think about it" which sounds a bit like Midnight Star. My sleeper pick would probably be the uptempo "Sugar Shack" from 1982 I think. I know it hasn't made CD yet.
Didn't they change their name into "One Way Featuring Al Hudson" at some point in the mid/late 80s? I think they did on that 1988 LP i've been looking for forever.
I'm aware of 3 releases between 1977 & 1979 under the name Al Hudson & the Partners.
One Way released 10 LPs between 1979 & 1989 The 1st one as "One Way featuring Al Hudson" and the last one (I have) under the name "Al Hudson & One Way" which is 1988's "A New Beginning" Everything inbetween was just billed as "One Way" :D
Some of my favorites being
Push
U' Me & The Other Guy(very similiar to Mtume's U, Me & He, lol)
Music
Show Me
Runnin' Away
Don't Stop
You Can Do It
Spread Love
More Than Friends, But Less Than Lovers
Nice dance tunes and monster ballads
They ruled the 80's IMHO:grin:

eddie, I'm with ya here. These artist truly had great songs that seem to have slipped through the cracks of time.
As you stated, "Lost Inside Of You" is a beautiful ballad. I also liked "Guess You Didn't Know." Alicia and Onne Way did one of my all-time favorite ballads, "If You Play Your Cards Right." Alicia really laid it out there.
Find them and destroy them!
Within the last year, I found Al Hudson and One Way A New Beginning on CD from 1988 which was their last set. There was a bunch of them online and I bought it for under $10. For years I could not find it, but as soon as Amazon allowed seller to create an item page, a dozen became available almost overnight.
Incredible! They made those bored German fellas of Musik Laden CLAP! :-P
One Way featuring Al Hudson was one of them best bands at the dawn of the Eighties. Those LPs need CD reissue NOW!
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)
One Way Featuring Al Hudson from 1979 is the only reissue I've seen so far, as part of Mercury's "Original Funk LP" series. There may be more though.
They outta put out the Lady/Wrap Your Body/IX albums on cd as well, my LP's are worn out
Iv'e been looking for an album for two days and iv'e finaly found it.From 1983 by Burgess Gardener a trumpet player,it's on M.C.A. with song writing credits to Al Hudson & Kevin McCord .The odd thing about it is that there's a great instrumental version of "Spread Love"on it but it's called "Gemstone".
